I'm interested in a 1979 911 SC that's for sale, but some details on the car seem not correct to me. It has no options to speak of: no sunroof, no electric windows, no aircon or center console. It does have Fuchs wheels, but they are 15 inch. Shouldn't they be 16 inch? There are no headlight washers. Is this correct? The car does have fog lights at the front (protruding) and a front air dam. It also has side repeater lights in the front fenders behind the wheels. Didn't these appear years later? Thanks, Peter
The car you are looking at sounds like a RoW (Rest of the World) aka euro spec car. - one of the previous owners may have removed the console - 15" wheels were standard up to 1988, 16" wheels were optional - headlight washers were an option - 78-83 had fog lights protruding from the from valence, 84+ had the fogs "built in" - side repeaters on the fender are RoW spec

The car should indeed be a RoW version according to the seller, but it was imported to The Netherlands in 1993 and I haven't seen any books yet so I don't know how to confirm if it's actually a RoW version without seeing documentation. I thought the standard wheels were 15 inch ATS "cookie cutters" and that the optional Fuchs wheels were always 16 inch? Did the RoW version already have side repeaters in 1979? I thought these came a few years later. The car has been repainted recently. I wonder if the front fenders might be replacements with repeaters.
I had a 85 RoW cab and the standard wheels were 15" phone dials. At that time, Fuchs 15" and 16" were also available, not sure about the cookie cutters. I've seen 78 SCs with side repeaters, so I would guess they were used from then. I can't remember seeing a mid year with side repeaters.

In the US that would be a valued configuration since most cars came with higher option levels. I'll bet it is as lightweight an SC as was ever produced. I once had a '78 SC with manual windows, no sunroof and cork/Dress MacKenzie Tartan inserts. Unlike yours it had AC. I used it as the basis for a racecar build LOL but today it would be a highly desirable spec. Still have the seats in the shop though... BTW it's highly likely the 15" fuchs were original equipment, Most in the US came that way.
That's exactly how my '79SC came from the factory, but in addition, no foglights, so no holes in the front valence. It came originally with 15" Phone Dials. (Now has 16" Fuchs). It's a USA car though, so no side fender repeaters. At some point, dealer added AC and I bought a console and stuck it in.
I'm still searching for a nice SC or 3.2. Not an easy task, since most 911s advertised are US-versions and many are either cabrio or targa versions, mostly in white or dark colours. Anyway, I've noticed quite a few examples that have body panels that don't line up properly, especially the front lid or the engine lid. I assume that a good, unmolested and accident free 911 should have panels that line up properly? Or do they sag over time? Here's an example below. It seems the lid is even bent up at the corners. For RoW, you could option 15 inch or 16 inch Fuchs on a 1979 911 SC. The only non-original spec on the '79 you described is the fender side markers that were 1981+ but keep in mind many European laws require their fitment which is why they appear on older model years today.

That is usually VERY easy to fix by turning the adjustable rubber bumpers in or out on the front or back lids. Or replacing them if they are gone or worn... they are cheap.
That is an aftermarket front spoiler/valance. Probably fiberglass. There is a fair chance that the wheel flares are fiberglass also. What does WTL mean?
WTL = Werks Turbo Look The door panels are what people call RSA door panels. You can get them in vinyl or leather, and as a DIY kit.
Yesterday I test drove a 1983 SC. The original service book is gone, so how can I check if chassis and engine are matching? Here are the numbers: VIN: WPOZZZ91ZDS102116 engine#: 63D3414 I do know that it's the correct engine# for this VIN, just would like to know if it's the engine that came with the car originally. I called the Dutch Porsche importer who directed me to call a random dealer. Within five minutes I had the answer. And for 59 euro you can buy a Birth Certificate of your Porsche. What a difference in service compared to Ferrari, where you can pay 5,000 euro in order to get a certificate that confirms you just bought a brand new LaFerrari! p.s. Thanks. The seats look like they are vinyl because of the mottled appearance of the skin. That being said, I believe the seats were reupholstered at one time because most of the tartan seats I've seen have been leather/tartan. Maybe the 930 guys will know where to get the fabric.

I've been told that Fuchs plans to produce a 16 inch version soon (they currently only have the bigger sizes available i.e. 17/18/19 inch). Fuchs made 16" (x6, x7, x8 x9) wheels starting in the 1970's with offsets specifically to fit your car. (6's and 7's fit the front, 7's, 8's and 9's fit the rear.) Don't understand your statement or are you only considering brand new wheels? All with black centers.
