To a 458, I would say probably better. That is all subjective and I'm sure you will disagree. Depends what the criteria is...now vs 488 different story.

I can't quite recollect where but I remember reading an article that speculated
that when they do replace the 458/458M series with a new platform It will support both
V6 & V8's but each will carry different body styles and the V8 will be more aggressive
Which makes a lot of sense because when you do it at the inception of a new platform
the costs will be less and you can amortize them over a long period.

After seeing this video just now....forget McLaren!

Ferrari FXX at Fiorano video just out. Listen to this and watch this car move. Ferrari will be doing fine in years to come. Luca has ingrained a culture that will be hard for anyone to corrupt

Mclaren who? Love to see this against the Mclaren P1 GTR

Luca has ingrained a culture that is hard to corrupt ? That's a little far fetched

Let's see if Top Gear and Motor Trend have better luck convincing Ferrari to participate in that showdown lol

I highly doubt that a smaller V6 is in the pipeline. That's Maserati territory marketing-wise.

I've heard that this might be done under a sub-brand as you say like "Dino" and will not bear the Ferrari brand name anywhere on it. It might be built and sold under Ferrari though the same way many sub-brands live under GM or Volkswagen.

I don't think customers would pay for a sub brand
The V6tt could quiet easily be tuned for 550hp or more
So it would be exotic and fast in it's own rights - Jaz

    I'm with you Jaz.

Actual Ferrari has three front-mid-engine cars (two GT's and one GT 2+2) in their portfolio and just one rear-mid-engine model. There is a lot of space for a further model. Therefore I'm sure Ferrari will attack Porsche with an "entry level" V6tt rear-mid-engine car in their price and performance bandwidth.

Let's be honest; Ferrari with the 488 GTB and its 670 hp plays now definitely in a different league than Porsche with its 911. On the other hand Porsche has now the same problem like Ferrari had with the 458, their b6 tt-engine reached its limit, they are not able to react soon on the 488 performance jump.

That's why Porsche will be launching the 960 soon A direct competitor to the 488
A lot of brands are getting into each others business now - Bentley is going for Aston
with the new speed 6 concept which looks like an Aston rip off :)

This is exactly what I'm thinking too. Why don't they just leave this type of cars to Maserati?

Maserati is positioned in the sporty luxury segment, Ferrari in the super sports/high performance car segment. Therefore not the engine capacity will make the difference but rather the car character.

But since Ferrari will be spun off it needs a bigger portfolio
Plus there many many people who would not consider a
Maserati mid engine production car but would buy a Ferrari

Sure, but why should Maserati stick to that? I mean - they offer models, that are positioned far from each other, but that doesn't stop them, right? In the past there were mid-engined Maseratis, so I don't see why wouldn't they introduce such model again. For sure the Maserati badge will fit better than the Prancing Horse on such a car.
