A very few people have asked me the mileage question.

My reply: I don't know and I don't really care. (I really don't)

They just laugh.

I never understood the gas mileage question, why people ask it....there are 1000 other things they could ask, but why the obsession with gas mileage?

 

Dunno. More people definitely asked me about gas mileage when gas prices were high. Now that they are pretty low, I don't get asked about the mileage at all.

 

I've never had that question. They all ask "what year?".

Too bad. I just broke 17 MPG.

 

I always get the "how fast does it go" or "how much did it cost" questions from the unknowing. I usually answer very to the first question and a lot to the second.

 

With so many people knowing so little about their own car, isn't 'gas mileage' a factoid that would impress/start a conversation with their friends and neighbors?

 

No, gas mileage is not a conversation starter. It's a conversation killer IMHO

I love it! My husband wanted to get MPG LOL for our Range Rover supercharged. I'm going to pass this pic on to him.

My husband has a GT-R and we get asked about gas mileage on our vehicles a lot, even our motorcycles. I don't understand the obsession either, but my general opinion is that if you ask about gas mileage because you're concerned about the cost, then you've already answered your question about owning whatever vehicle you're asking about.

According to what I found on Google, the 360 will get 10-15 mpg (on average) of course, depending on how you're driving it. Since I imagine most of us are driving like we stole them, then I'm guessing on the lower end.

I have never checked gas mileage on anything I have owned, when the fuel gauge says low its time to put some in.

 

I got the "How fast is it?" question with most of my motorcycles, too. (Kind of dumb, since I never owned anything other than a cruiser.)

Best answer I know is, "Usually just as fast as the traffic in front of me!"

 

I overtook someone today, just hedgehopping through traffic, and the moron lost it. Ended up following two trucks and just as we are going around a bend, loser decides he wants to try to overtake me and the lorries at the same time, he pulls out, almost hits the oncoming cars, and has to switch back in. As he was millimetres from my rear, I decided enough was enough, soon as it was clear, went past the trucks and on my way leaving him there.

I pulled up at a post office, next thing, ******* is alongside me screaming and shouting. I get out and lock the car with the intention of going into the store, and stop and ask him what his problem is, he is absolutely going nuts, telling me the car is rubbish, it's poncy etc etc, I shouldn't be allowed to overtake people, it's dangerous (completely ignoring the fact he almost killed himself catching up and trying to pass on a blind bend of course) I was so shocked I just laughed in his face, and he kept telling me he was going to beat me up, smash the car up etc etc, I asked him why he didn't get out the car then, as I was, and commented I think I'd rather have a 458 than a beat up ten year old VW golf. He was going mad, weirdo, and eventually drove off. The UK has some real idiots out there. The funny thing was, when I overtook him I wasn't even at the speed limit to do it, and was on a road at least four lanes wide physically, so it was seemingly pure jealousy driven. Amazing what triggers some people to act like total idiots

 

My husband and I have experienced this many times, the most recent only two days ago. We'll be nowhere near someone, not speeding and yet if you pass them in another lane, they completely lose their minds. I agree that it has to be a jealousy thing. What else could it be. Must be a sad life to go around that angry all the time.

 

That is the benefit on German roads, most are car nuts and recognize and fully accept that their cars are more or less inferior in performance .

Another rather funny thing. Some highways have no speed limits for long stretches. But once and a while parts are under construction with speed limits of 80 km/h or even 60 km/h. I generally stick closely to these speed limits. The result is (since all others are speeding typically more than 20 km/h over the limit), all folks, whom I had previously blasted by, come up again and overtake under the speed limit. Grinning . But: when the next limit free stretch comes up, they know that someone really fast will be coming up, take care to look into the rear view mirror and immediately leave the left lane as soon as just possible, even into smaller gaps. Gaps they would normally not bother for letting someone pass.

With respect to the fuel efficiency question, my Maranello yields clearly over 20 mpg (at US highway speeds) ....

These individuals have much more serious issues than being jealous of Ferrari owners.

 

Yep, if these people put the energy of their anger into their work, maybe they would actually achieve their dreams, whether it be a ferrari, a new house, a bigger family, much more quickly and more comfortably...... I doubt many of us drive our cars purely to show off (although some indoubtedly might), and it's such a shame you can't enjoy working hard and reaping the rewards without judgement.

 

That seems to be common in the US as well. People traveling one speed, either too fast or too slow, they're oblivious. It's like they saved money by buying a car that only goes one speed. Or, don't know how to turn off cruise control....T

 

My husband and I have had conversations about this subject. We have never once bought anything because of what someone else would think. We couldn't care less about impressing other people. The bottom line is that we both love motorsports, always have, and we indulge in the best that we can afford to get. If people think we're showing off, then they don't know us at all.

 

Absolutely...... I once had a girlfriend who complained that I keep the nice cars in the garage, not on the drive where neighbours could see. I explained that I buy nice cars for me, and my own personal enjoyment, and not to make a statement. Others get to see the cars on the road if and when I'm driving,
