Hello to all, I'm in the market for a 512TR. From what I'm seeing is that the pricing is all over the place. Forza Magazine"s latest issue rates them from 100-150K. I'd agree that 150K maybe low for one in pristine condition. But then I'm seeing some at 350K+ with 7K miles. In August of '14 one sold at auction for 187K. It was from a collection and had 2800-2900 miles. I can't imagine this car having any issues. I remember seeing one about 9 months ago with 5500 miles and was asking 200K no issues and didn't get it. What I'm asking is, what's the going price for a TR with 10K miles no issues in excellent condition? Are TR really selling for 300K+ since August? TIA, Roberto
It may be a sellers market but it's been a long time coming. Expect prices to keep climbing until they are no longer considered overpriced or expensive. This would be the turning point when the market hits capitulation but be careful because this stage usually comes after the frenzy and that's when prices really go nuts. If you come across a decent one at an affordable price, grab it and enjoy ownership beyond just anticipating the appreciation.
Not reached > 300K level yet ; for a very nice low mileage one , it should be in 250ishK. However , if you love and like the 512TR then keep seeking for a good one in reasonable price. I had been waiting for many months to get my 512M (8900 KM) at reasonable price. If you like to invest more than love the car then something else e.g. F512M .. the limited edition one. Just my 2 cents.
I was in the market a couple of months ago for a 512 and decided to go with a T.R. instead and take the extra $80k savings and invest in something else. That said, I think real values are in the high $180k's for ones under 25k miles. Asking prices are over inflated whereas selling prices I think are no where close. With each subsequent 512 sale, the dealers are asking 10-15% higher for the next one, but I'm not sure if the selling prices are following accordingly.
I remember reading a post from a member a few days ago where he said he has a friend who is thinking of selling his 512 for about $185k.
Michael Sheehan 92 512TR was listed at 249K last month, and it sold. Ferrari of Denver 94 512TR is listed at 361K, and has sale pending. Of course, that is all asking prices. Even with 10% off asking, the numbers are a bit higher that data points you are referencing. 9 months is a long time in this market. I'm surprised that it has taken off myself. Good luck.
I'm not surprised - They are such amazing cars to drive and own. So few of them in the USA. They are "the" ferrari for an entire generation of Ferrari lover just coming into the earning years. And also that generation that is going to inherit all that boomer wealth.
1) It's inherit, not inheret 2) Feel free to share your inheritance with the rest of us who aren't coming into any money. ;-) Keith
That's a great sarcastic smiley face - Instead of insulting a member perhaps u should stick to the topic. I worked for my cars and haven't inherited anything all our parents are alive and well thank you. Back on topic - I think the 512 TR is positioned for significant appreaction relative to many other cars due to it's unique styling and design, coveted by a large demographic, and as I said it's a wonderful car to own and drive.
Mo betta. I agree that the styling and design of the 512TR is unique and while very similar to the TR, the lines are so much cleaner inside and out. If the cost of ownership did not concern me so much, I'd get off the sidelines and in the game. Sorry to have offended you. Keith
If u can't afford to own and maintain the car they aren't fun, perhaps u should try a 996 P car. I have owned a few TR's and 2 512 TR's the aesthetic difference is nice however driving them back to back is shocking how Ferrari improved the 512 TR, it feels as if it's a two generational jump - the improvement in performance and the chassis is immense. Cost of ownership -What cost? 7k every 5 years - 512 TR are 200k ++ today? If u want a model to be scared about get a 430 and pray the diff light doesn't come on.
I sold my Dino in January and when I jump back into Ferrari ownership, it will either be with a 308, 328 or a 512TR. I'm less concerned about the price differential (I hold onto cars for a long time) and more concerned with ongoing maintenance. The dreaded diff carrier and pinion service and requirement to pull the engine when servicing the car has me a bit freaked out. As for P cars, a 993 C2S would be a great car to own. However, only a Ferrari is a Ferrari. Keith
Don't let it freak you out - bottom line, Get it or you will regret it! A major isn't that big of a deal; yes I know it's expensive even by Ferrari standards, but as said numerous times before in different ways the Testarossa family (Testarossa, 512TR, 512M) outside of the ultra cars like 288 GTO/F40/F50/LaFerrari truely captures the essence of the brand for at least two generations of enthusiasts and puts you in a rarified circle of cars and owners with a mid engine 12. More importantly keep in mind there is a mixed opinion on the Diff issue, but the camp that believes it's an imminent danger and the sky is falling is just far more vocal and have been the unfortunate owners to have an issue. If you take a poll of who has actually had an issue in current or past ownership I am sure it would be a very small subset of owners. Along the same lines I had a 996 C4S for years and never had the equally hyped IMS issues that some 996 owners had (far more prevalent than TR diff issues I can assure you) and my 92 512TR hasn't had any major issues given its age other than: trim, seat belts, headlight motors, and hood shocks and its now at 29Kmi. I consider myself an aggressive driver on lone back roads which is different than many of the boulevard cruisers owners who refuse to try to test of their cars limits, so had expected to pay higher ownership maint/repair costs and I have not had that experience. For another snap shot in time perspective I have had more issues with various items on my SL55 than my 512TR in the past 5 years and besides under current conditions you can buy it and drive it for a season or two with a high probability you can sell it for the same or more money if you don't like it..not bad if you ask me.
