And no sign of it on their website either...
My car is still undergoing light restoration. One question I have is about the side vents. It seems on some cars they are painted black and others the colour of the car. Which is correct or was this changed depending on who was working that day? Many thanks.
I have only seen them either body color or chromed. At first I thought the chromed side vents were non-factory but I have seen enough Ghiblis with chromed vents to believe that is the way they left Maserati. Ivan
Thanks Ivan I've seen at least 2 with black vents. Mine also has a black side trident rather than chrome. Looks like they were both painted in the past. I'm also looking at the trident on the front grill, should it have a red outline and red horizontals lines or is that just on the SS? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have seen the red outline on tridents of 4.7 liter cars; I have it on mine. As to the side vents, I think they look better in body color. Calling attention to the vents do not, in my opinion, help the lines of the car. Of course that is just a matter of personal preference. Ivan
Thanks as ever Ivan, they have been bare metal stripped so I will get them repainted in red. I will also get the black side tridents chromed again. Are you aware of a one off Ghibli with vertical side vents on the front and rear wings? Its a red Swiss LHD car which is in the UK. I saw some pics of it today.
In 2001 I saw a red Ghibli that meets your description. The owner had driven the car to Modena for a Maserati club event. I guess whomever did the modifications got inspired by the Iso Grifo. All I can say is this Ghibli looked different; but not sure I would say better. Can you post the photos? Ivan
I'll get try to hold of the photo and post it, I agree with you I'm not sure it adds to the car. Apparently the owner thinks the modification was carried out at Ghia before delivery. Mike
Hi Ivan, the car with the vertical vents was specially made by Maserati on order of a French owner. The car wears a "5000" badge as well. Something one finds on several early Ghiblis. Ciao, Bart

Imho they should be painted in the same color of the car. Other options give no justice to the clean profile of the Ghibli. Francesco
Last 2 digits. Haven't found marks on drivers door yet but I expect they are there somewhere!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes thats the one. Its in a workshop in the UK at the moment. The buyer bought it from a Swiss owner I believe.
I have an extra full set of side vents. For some reason these vents tend to get lost in body shops. Ivan
Ivan, Would you be able to suggest where any bodynumbers should be found on the doors either here or offline please? Many Thanks once again Julian
Julian, Some time ago I documented the places I knew where body numbers were located through a Ghibli but have never published the document for fear of people using it to to make fake spyders. I have already encountered three fails attempts to fool me with a fake spyder and one of these days I fear they might succeed (although I seriously doubt it ). I can tell you that SOME of the doors were stamped with the VIN while others were not. This is a photo of the original stamping from Ghibli spyder 1237. Notice that the last three digits were stamped in the area where the interior door mechanism is located. The VIN was either stamped or handwritten in many places of a Ghibli ... look and you shall find. Ivan Image Unavailable, Please Login
I recently documented the DNA of my Ghibli Spyder and agree with Ivan. If you look you will find the at least the last 3 digits of the VIN in many places. A good and easy place to look is the headlight buckets.
Some photos of progress on the car. There were a few rust bubbles on the driver's door sill which have been attended to. The steering wheel has been re-trimmed and the side vents have been stripped ready for re-painting. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
New car on the market - 1972 RHD SS UK car. Owned by a member of UK for 8 years. Maserati Ghibli SS UK Car For Sale | Kent, South East, Kent | Furlonger Specialist Cars JD Classics have a guide price of £350k for their blue car which I think it is optimistic so it will be interesting to see how much they are asking. What is the typical premium for an SS vs a standard car?
In their description is the statement below .... what does it mean ?? "This is a matching numbers car and also comes with a Maserati Classiche carried out by Maserati Spa in August 2014" Ivan
