My frustration level reached the boiling point waiting on multiple LEO applications I have out yet I have not given up hope. Any way I heard someone talking about working the automotive auctions so I looked into it and low and behold I got hired on with Manheim here in Houston....Manheim - About Manheim .

The work schedule is pretty good as well, Monday-Tuesday-Thursday and Friday. Off on the weekends so I will not miss any racing lol. It has been a huge struggle finding a job that suits/meets my interest but patience may be paying off. Monday will be a 12hr shift to get started, orientation etc etc etc, so I will know more after the first day. I will be driving cars across the auction block and yes there will most likely be more turds than gems but hopefully this will lead to more opportunities in the industry.

    Wish me luck ok.

Thank you Rob. (edit) The call I received last evening was from an applicant screener thus not a true job offer. Thankfully HR called me and straightened out the confusion, the screener as mentioned had told me I had a 12pm appointment but failed to mention a location. So I was told that I will be contacted next week if I can proceed or will be denied.

If it makes you feel better to commiserate, you're not the only one brother...

I have a good possibility to step back into the auto world myself.

It's odd how this might come together (for each of us) with this common passion.

Good thoughts and energy to you.

Funny how life works isn't it? I know a lot of people here are wondering why my stay at Sphere Motorsports was so short as it was a dream job for a car guy. Here is the absolute truth and in no form or fashion am I intending any negatives toward the company or its owner.

A customer dropped of their 612 Scaglietti and I was moving/shuffling cars around based upon priority level. I was inching the vehicle back and forth and between my big feet and the baby sized footwell I hit the brake and the gas at the same time. The damage was minor and almost unnoticeable but was not inexpensive. I was told I would not be fired and everything would be ok yet two days later I received a termination phone call. I should have worn my karting boots lol!

I will know if it is reality AFTER I receive a paycheck. I have become very cautious and guarded because everything is just a false promise until results happen.

A lady from the Manheim HR department called me last week and all I heard was "blah blah blah", what a run around it was and they said that they have immediate openings.

It has been over one month since I heard from the police dept I have had a application in with since Dec 26th yet the hiring deputy also dislikes all the dragging feet. So even though I have another application to fill out within the same county I have reached the end of my rope regarding all the crap and waiting for another LEO position so I have moved on. I am now taking practice test for a USPS job preparing for the 473 exam. Starting pay is over $50K/yr and the benefits are superb, time to move on. My test scores keep getting higher and higher and the higher I can test on the final exam my chances increase greatly for almost an immediate position.

    Gregg,
Those USPS jobs are non-existent. Save your money. Vets get extra points that moves them ahead of you on the "list." Companies make money selling practice tests to desperate people like yourself. Do you have a plan "C"?

After talking with our mail man yesterday I did learn that USPS only hires from the pool of those who have passed the 473 exam. Also you are correct about the companies making money but one positive aspect is that I have unlimited pre-testing on all 6 exams and each exam consist of at least four quizzes so it is a 24/pack. He also mentioned that there have been 900+ hires within the past year in Houston alone, not sure who too believe really. I guess only time will tell if it was money well spent or wasted. Yes I have also been working on my plan "C" yet have not received any correspondence as of yet. I am going full bore though and have high hopes and a positive attitude and outlook.

Thank you for asking :) ,
    Gregg

I did this job back in 2001-2002 right after I graduated from college. You'll be working with 90-95% retirees who do this job as a form of socializing with each other and drinking lots of coffee. The other 5-10% are either high school kids or people doing it till their big break comes along. I was 23 and I worked with my dad since he was retired. He was 64. Be fore I started my dad was the kid in the group, most were in their late 60s up to probably their late 70s. The guys would talk about their war stories from ww2.

Ok, I admit I have been curious as to what happened at Sphere.

Yeah, while I wouldn't call the foot-well of a 612 massive, I would say that it is quite a bit more generous than "baby size." I would think that unless your job required huge, clunky steel-toed boots, this could be easily avoided.

Attentiveness when piloting someone else's very expensive car, and your attitude in regard to its protection ^^"LOL" above^^ just might be why Manheim hasn't called back.
