I like to watch the girls, if they're gone i'll keep on watching...as long as there is a ferrari in it!!..ok, if the racing is good i'll watch...but i still like the girls...of course these days, it's almost an offense if you're not gay!! Hell let's substitute them for some dragqueens, or a bunch of naked guys, or some poodles, or whatever!!! This is stupid, pitbabes and gridgirls are tradition, i seriously doubt any of them feels insulted or diminuishd for standing there...because it's like modeling, it's a job, and they do it because they beautifull, niothing wrong with thaat, wrong is to try and see problems and offens where it doesn't exist.

I looked at the grid ladies at the Bahrain GP today, and found them quite good looking in their air stewardess uniforms. Very classy and dignified.
Very different from the ordinary display of vulgarity and bad taste seen at other GPs.

Well said. My wife admires beautiful women. She doesn't go, "omg look at those outfits". LOL.

You are rather judgmental aren't you.

I've never noticed any of the outfits to be vulgar. F1 is far too PC. Going green was enough...

Were they good looking air stewardess or good looking grid girls? Either way they were good looking girls that have no other reason to be there other than being eye candy. I like candy and so do you by the way you complemented the said girls. Dont fight it :)

Exactly...what is "vulgar" exactly? Women are beautiful and many don't mind/like to show it off. People are so uptight.

It isn't degrading...not even a little. I bet every one of those girls owns a bikini that is more revealing than the most revealing F1 grid girl outfit. I bet a large portion also go to nude/topless beaches depending on their home country.

A lot of people are there for the racing; just as many there for the spectacle and show of it all. Just look at all the insane parties before/after F1 events. If people only cared about racing, they would all go home and go to sleep after the race.

Jet fly overs are also awesome. So much development, history, and money to make that happen - plus the sound.

Please enough with the crazy talk...next no ring girls in between rounds at boxing matches? Stop the insanity ; )

That is not the point; there are places where it's OK to wear a bikini, and places where it's not. A woman doesn't wear a bikini to the office, to go to church or university.

A little bit of decorum and respect around motor racing wouldn't go amiss. A track isn't the seaside, or the tanning parlour.

Why everything has to be ruduced to the lowest level?

They don't wear bikinis. I see more revealing Olympic beach volleyball uniforms honestly. How is a beautiful women holding an umbrella show a lack of respect to motor racing? I think it's quite the opposite. The interest in them is all that rivals interest in the cars, racing, and all the drama surrounding it. It's tribute to their beauty.

I wouldn't compare the track to any of the places you mention honestly. The more sterile and uptight F1 becomes, the more it will lose the next generation.

Maybe you are loosing sight of the fact that F1 has now to cater for Middle and Far East tastes, and not European ones only. In fact, the F1 footprint in Europe is shrinking.

In many countries in these regions, suggestive clothing or too much exposure of the flesh is a definite No No. In the Middle East particularly, they don't much like sexualisation so accepted in the West.

F1 is getting a new audience, new venues, and cannot get away from the fact that it has to adapt to survive.

So don't use them at those venues. Some NFL teams don't have cheerleaders; some do. The point is not to offend people. But most of Europe and the US value having them around in my opinion.

I believe the Grid and Podium Girls are locals to the race country and their attire at races is more conservative in Middle Eastern countries. If you pay attention to the designs of the outfits then they give you little cultural hints too. The West does embrace more sexualisation than the Middle East, but that's an aspect to our culture that many of us enjoy and has long been integrated into motorsport.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

This whole conversation is ridiculous. Why is everything so offensive these days?

Saying grid girls are being degraded is like saying girls at Hooters are being degraded. No one is forcing these girls to do their jobs, and if any do have a problem with it there's thousands of girls waiting in line to take over.

And how much does the middle east respect women when they have no rights and are forced to wear a blanket covering head to toe?

    That's what should be offensive.

F1 therefore leads those countries towards celebrating a woman's beauty.

However, that might be about as much as we can get into that aspect of the debate without it becoming a P&R discussion. Let's gently steer out of that skid... :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

What you talking about? I heard girls are sexually free to do whatever they want over there and they even get stoned for that, much like us in the 60's. ;)

    Hardly funny.

You all are not thinking about this from a young girl growing up perspective. She witnesses around her that the only thing that will ever matter in her life is how she looks and as she gets older how sexually active she is. Pretty sad, but that is the end result of our need as animals to breed. One would hope that since we have potentially the most developed animal brain we would have moved forward a little.

So yes nothing wrong with parading girls/females as objects except for the perception of that young girl child growing up. If we can find a way of isolating that so girls growing up do genuinely understand that they are valued for more, excellent.

Umm. And men aren't objectified also in advertising? Big muscles! Six pack abs!

Striking a balance is a parent's job. Shielding them from reality accomplishes nothing.

I'd say it's the person who is fixated and uptight about sexuality who is actually less evolved than those who celebrate it.

Sex has by definition been with us since the begining.

It's just that now it has been made the pivotal point of Western culture.

Frankly, seen from outside that is rather troubling. Only a psy could explain that.

With a society so immersed in sexuality, why is the West footprint shrinking compared to others?

I can see a contradiction there.

That's nothing to do with whether we have grid/podium girls, it's to do with the business reality of holding an F1 race. Bernie's levies on organisers has them struggling to put on a race and have it pay for itself, so they aren't coming to terms when contact renewal is due. Consequently, many of the new locations on the calendar are in countries where the race is subsidised by the government or autocratic rulers are paying for the race as a show of prestige.

    All the best,
    Andrew.
