I think the European market is far more sophisticated than the American market.

For example, I purchased a Series 1 Espada # 7033 a few years ago in the USA after the vendor had no success in selling the car within the USA despite repeat advertising.

He later attempted to advertise parts from the car and sold the wheels and spinners to a dealer of exotic cars - from whom i subsequently purchased the said items to complete the car and maintain its originality.

When i enquired about the part he had advertised he said he had the complete car less the wheels and spinners

I could not believe that no one in the USA was interested in #7033 despite the reasonable asking price.

#7033 was the first ESPADA in the USA and the first ESPADA to be road tested by ROAD & TRACK.

It preceded the first official customer delivery as it was a "show car" intended for display purposes at the Auto Shows.

It is believed it was first shown in London UK then shipped to the NY Auto Show and later the LA Auto Show in Jan 1969 where it was sold to John Crean, billionaire after making an offer Lamborghini could not refuse - despite being ear marked for the show circuit.

This information was sourced from the son of John Crean who recently sent me photos of the car from the family album

I don't really understand the USA market which seems to undervalue or have no regard for some historically significant or important cars.

Over the years I have purchased several historically significant cars other than Lamborghinis from vendors who could not find a local buyer in the USA AT ANY PRICE! .

Europeans have a better appreciation for early Lamborghinis and in particular the Espada and seem to value them accordingly.

Well, just some 4-5 years ago one could buy a decent Espada with needs in some minor areas for about 35-50 k€. With just maybe further 10 k€ to make it reliable and usable. And further 20 k€ maybe to make it a 2+ car.

Klima Lounge, aside this somewhat strange blue one, had a silver Espada (standing righthand of the blue one) and a Jarama S on offer (among other cars). Upon my question they indicated this silver one to cost 400 k€ and the Jarama 325 k€. All their Lamborghinis had this home made Lamborghini signature sticker applied to the engine hood besides the actual badge (a silly habit in my view).

Yes and it remains to be seen whether the numbers quoted for Europe are maintained. That's true for a lot of cars now all over the world. Car prices are just plain nuts and it happened very quickly and for some cars that really aren't all that special.

As an aside, Espadas and Jaramas haven't been very popular here for many, many years. It "looks" like that's changing but I haven't heard of an Espada much over $200K US here and really that was just 7232 - the glass roof one with scent of Grace Kelley inside! :D

:D Oh but of course! They couldn't even give it way not that many years ago. The market is nuts. Too much money being made in the US stock market wait till it goes boom!

Espadas gaining some respect here in the USA too....

This one at the Copper State 1000 rally in Arizona last week. It is an early S3 (1973 is the cut-off year for entries) and speedo pictures shows a true 140 mph (GPS tuned gauge) at 6500 rpm. Nobody outran her! There were a few cars that could have if they were in great state of tune, and if the drivers had the courage (Daytona, Ghibli, and Pantera), but nobody outran the Lambo. Further, the rally was actually closer to 1500 miles, and the Espada never broke down. So this Espada gained some street cred for the model!

In this post they seem to indicate the SF bay area.

Olivier, isnt it dangerous to drive on a highway with pedestrian speed??? At least you made appropriate noise at 4000 rpm.

    ;) ;) ;)

Presumably you know a source for the angle drive item located at the left front wheel, having the correct gearing (there are various different ones) for your speedo? ;) For example Martin Schrodt ([email protected]) has them.

When you consider that either a project 356 Speedster of which around 4000 were produced or a project Ferrari twin head light 330 2 +2 which was produced around 900 times can each sell for around 200K in similar condition to this Espada - One has to consider this project Espada a relative bargain @ $69500!

The 356 or 330 are no match for the ESPADA in terms of performance, styling and rarity - so perhaps I should call it a super bargain!!!

I have always liked the Espada (I have 3 in my garage ) but I cant understand why they were so unsaleable until recently. It defies logic - "radical" avant garde design 1960s super car, equipped with V12 & 5speed . The Espada looks exactly the same today as it did when new. Perhaps some people are just a little slow! .......I remember there were quite a few in my class.
