I've said it before: Prost leaned heavily on Ickx and it worked. This was in all the newspapers at the time. It saved Prost the win but cost him the title. Karma.

Monaco is basically a French GP and Prost a French driver. Whom are they gonna help? The Brazilian or the German?

PS: I know Ickx is Belgian. I met him and Prost in person.

Easy: people at Monaco will help the one who has more money, whatever his nationality might be.

I know you know that Jacky is Belgian; I also know that you know very well that it does not mean he would tilt the scales towards a frenchman; besides, Bellof was a teammate of his at the time.

Exactly that just as being swiss does not mean you would tilt the scales towards a frenchman; or a german; or an Italian...
I always found that this story of Jacky Ickx stopping that race to do a favour to Prost was very disrespectful of whom Jacky is: it is selling him cheap. He diserves better.

As a Swiss I'd do it like the people of Monaco. :)

Ok, fair enough. I have to admit that the rain was an absolute down pour and the conditions were flood like with no hope for it to end anytime soon. Once they stopped it, chaos erupted: We all left the seats (already totally drenched, my passport got ruined in all the water) and tried to get to the trains. I was unfortunately in front but the station's gates were closed. So I was almost squeezed to death at the gates. They didn't have trains for the longest time because they didn't expect them so early. It was awful.

On my way to the train station I came across a stranded F1. Completely unprotected. Today everybody (or me at least) would rip a piece off that thing or run away with the steering wheel, not back then. :) Also bumped into Lauda. Was eerie.

    I would agree with that.
I think that the race was stopped to prevent a crash.
It was a sensible decision, in my view.

And the funny thing, Andreas, is that already at this time, we thought that Formula One has gone too far, that all emphasis was on the car (and engine) and not on the driver anymore...

Not a patch on modern f1 drivers. Even Maldanado isn't as reckless. People here are so delusional to rate this guy above Hamilton/Alonso (even vettel)

No respect for the dead huh? Let it go man, let people have their opinions and you have yours. Your constant arguing with everyone is ruining this section.

Posting a youtube video on a guy you've never heard of doesn't validate your point either.

Respecting the dead is completely different to thinking they are a good driver. I don't argue that much actually… these threads still get posted on without me and I actually stop when people start making things personal (which ruins the section imo).

And of course I have heard of Gilles. Obviously I haven't watched all his races (neither have you since you weren't born either) but spent a good few hours here and there over the last few days rewatching footage particularly focusing on him and reading so I would be in a better position to comment. Wasn't that impressed. I suggest you rewatch ALL the footage easily available of your heroes and your views about them being leagues above todays drivers may change also. If someone could stream entire seasons of old f1 that would be nice. too bad :/

I met Gilles once in Hockenheim. Very different kind of guy. So intense and focused. Sad.

I have watched some of his races, but not all; being born in 1960, I could have watched more races, had these been aired on T.V...
At the end of the seventies, the french T.V was still not airing all Grand Prix, only about two-thirds of these; the rest you followed on the radio, or the morning after in the papers.
In 1975, there were only two races on the French T.V: Monaco and the French Grand Prix.

Toil, stupidity and ignorance should have a limit, but in your case there seems tho be no such limit....i'll stop here so that Andrew won't be forced to ban me (with just cause i must add). DIscussion here is over for me...again my mistake for answering people who clearly don't have a clue about this buisness.....time for fun is over, and you presence only serves to polute this section, nothing else.....it's a pitty that once someone is on ignore we are syill able to read his crap trough other posters...diference of opinion should be welcome, but one should not confuse it with ignorance.

'Top car' is far too subjective. So lets frame the results against the only objective metric we can (which would define top car by it being a WCC winning car).

After 152 race starts here are the number of races each driver had in a WCC winning car:

Hamilton: 36 (40 if we assume that merc will win 2015 constructors)
    Prost: 61
    Senna: 64
    Schumacher: 47
    Vettel: 77

So no hamilton has had the least amount of time in a top car and look at his results.

    1. you can't even spell (most of your posts have at least 10 spelling mistakes and with your level of literacy I'm surprised you can even read)
    2. You say difference of opinion is welcome but should not be confused with ignorance yet you post things such as…

Perhaps you should put yourself on your own ignore list…

Now stop following me around the forums like a little girl and find something else to occupy yourself in your retirement...

Damn it! Got dragged back in *again*....

It has been pointed out to you more than once that Pedro (one of the more knowledgeable and tolerant posters here) is not a native English speaker. His posts and reasoning simply highlight what an ignorant fool you actually are.

And I happen to agree with him. You can beg to differ, but don't you understand that your constant polluting of every damn thread is getting very, very, old to many here? Maybe STFU and try and learn a little.

If it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, it's probably a duck......we all get it that you think LH is the best driver in history. Fine, that's your opinion. Trying to shout down those that disagree with your PF1 (joke site) quotes and random BS from Wikipedia just makes you look like an even bigger fool.

Seriously? Have you not been warned and/or banned for this before? Take two weeks off to cool down... again.

I think it should be a serious matter of concern for mods and all of us that with increasing rate the most respected long standing contributors of the board get sent to the beach.

Those are the people that built the quality of the F1 section as we all used to enjoy it. The mods give a lot of leeway to very disruptive characters here. Those two matters, in my view, are directly related.
The long standing members are loosing their cool for the reason that they wish to preserve the known quality and maturity of interaction on this board which is left to the members due to hesitative moderation.

The rules here apply to EVERYBODY, but it's impossible to demand that the unpopular users follow the rules when others here are allowed to continuously provoke and taunt them. If you want moderators to hold the unpopular users to a standard (and ban them if they fail to meet it), then the rest of you must uphold that same standard.

Often, what ends up happening is that users see some inappropriate behavior, yet instead of reporting the offending post, they attack the user with insults. The attacked user then reports the post and mod action is taken against the attacker. You have to realize that moderators do not read every post made on this site - that would be an impossible task. Personally (because I follow F1 but have no interest in reading others' opinions on the subject), I seldom wander into this section unless I've received a report. If you want a moderator to deal with something that you feel is inappropriate, then you must report it.

In the future, report posts that you believe are disruptive or are otherwise in violation of the rules, because violating the rules yourself will never lead to a more civilized discussion. It's really that simple.

Yes, fully understood and agreed with what you say. It just really really hit the wrong guy. Perhaps we all need to learn to use the report function a bit more.
