What the hell! This! Completely agree. I hope he will be back. --- Nearly 2000 posts of constant trolling, and nothing. I've reported him before and no action taken. Ridiculous. Ian, I do hope you will come back.
That's why you miss the subtle chinese water torture that eventually causes folks here to lose it. I get that an attack is an attack and must be punished. But it would be helpful to you if you consulted with the more active mods in here (Andreas, Andrew) who see what's happening on a regular basis and then maybe realize that a 2 day ban is a bit more fair than a 2 week ban.
This was discussed in the mods section and Neuro and I agreed with El Wayne: Fast Ian has been warned and banned before for personal attacks and should know better. Don't like a user? Put him on ignore. Works well for me.
If anyone should have been banned for loosing his cool it was me not Ian, so i'll ban myself also for 2 weeks since this was my fault to begin with. I understand people have to respect other posters and one should never resort to insult, but there are many ways of insult and many others to disrupt a conversation....and there are clearly one or too posters around here with only that purpose in mind......I've been in many forums before and i can tell you it's hard to find people so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about f.1 as we see here, people who actualy enjoy talking and discussing Ferrari and f.1, and from whom you can actualy learn something....alowing Trolls to run free trough the f.1 section while banning the ones who actually "make" this section is certanily not the best way to improve it's quality. Best regards Pedro I do hope Ian will come back because i know that for may of us he represents a big part of this section.
+1 The cancer has to be removed, and the forum will be all good again. There is a limit to how much stupidity people can take. Ian getting banned will do NOTHING against the problem. I fully comprehend that El Wayne doesn't venture in the section much and fully agree with you, he should've either consulted with Andreas and/or Andrew or completely left it to them. Putting Toil on ignore is a fruitless exercise because he and his stupidity get quoted so much it renders it moot. I fully understand he's not very knowledgeable about F1, even more about old days, recently he said he learns old stuff from Wikipidia (obviously not the best of resources) yet days later claims guys like Gilles aren't worthy of holding Hamilton's unwashed boxers! Toil is constantly baiting everyone with a voice and when someone bites, it's game over! *****************NOT SAFE FOR WORK/EASILY AFFECTED BY SWEARY WORDS********** [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwpfSkB8nls[/ame] Toil is Bruce with the sign on.
I have 3 on ignore. There have been times when I wanted to take the ban just to say what needed to be said, but it wouldn't make a difference.
If everyone was as cool as the Swiss that would be a solution. Unfortunately my Greek blood prevents this... I still think more consideration should be given to the cause. Keep in mind, even when we do ignore, the posts come through if quoted by others. While they don't overtly cross the line, they do cause frustration. Especially when it's obvious that plenty of long-time contributors have pretty much left as a result. 2 weeks is a very long time.
Well said, thats the way I understand it works, there is a fine line, cross it and the hammer comes down it's that simple.
You would reference hammer time... Btw, I'm sure you realize that none of my complaints are about you.
The flip side of that coin was a comment by Fast Ian disrespectful of Hamilton and not counting his achievements for anything It's all a matter of perspective
We make diligent notes of mod actions and consult with one another regularly. Sometimes a well-meaning mod can make a mistake (I have on a number of occasions) and it gets caught by other mods in the mod forum relatively quickly. However, this isn't one of those times and I concur with the posts made so far by both Wayne and Andreas. Generally, there'd be much less "friendly fire" as you guys see it if people reported things instead of lashing out. Also generally, trolls do what they do for the reaction - remove the reaction and you remove the reward, thus encouraging them to move on. Unless there's a blatant violation of the rules, we're not going to intervene and it isn't setting an inclusive environment for us to move people along just because someone isn't as popular as others. All the best, Andrew.
I don't envy you your job. I think that the problem is bigger than one or two posters or even to F-Chat itself. Many of us are used to a level of respectful discourse that's no longer the norm on the web in general. F1 discussions no longer seem to have substantive topics. Arguinging logically about a dysfunctional and often irrational topic is difficult so the discussion devolves into personal preferences. Positions that don't change and can't be discussed logically. I blame Bernie and the Beatles.
#80 Fast_Ian aggressively goes after Toil for stating that Hamilton is within the top 10 drivers of this sport. Given the fact that only 9 other drivers have more WDC titles than him that is not an unreasonable thing to say. Particularly since he is well on his way to his 3rd title. At that point there are only 4 drivers left with more titles. Granted WDCs are not the measure of all things but objectively one of the few measuring sticks we have (points, poles, wins, podiums, fastest laps the others, all stats in which Hamilton is moving forward as well). I'm not a Hamilton fan but to write off his achievements is one sided and certainly not a good way to argue against somebody who supports Hamilton.
Seems to me Ian praises Hamilton for his talents and doesn't say discredit his achievements at all. He instead raises a valid point that Hamilton (in the past, at least) has led girlfriend trouble get in the way of his performance. Schumacher's mom died the night of the Imola GP yet Schumi got on with the job in hand. Won the race. Sure, no champagne afterwards and I'm not sure how long he stuck with the press conference. That's one of the things that made Schumacher a true great. Yet Hamilton couldn't keep it together because his GF broke up with him.
I just thought the month of April should be defended by a positive comment. In case my wife ends up reading this. All the best, Andrew.
Adolf and Eva's 70th wedding anniversary is coming up on the 29th. Shame about the short honeymoon though...
