Kölnberger Classic Cars Black SS Spyder conversion at 380k. 1970 Maserati Ghibli - Coupe 4.9 SS | Classic Driver Market 1970 RHD SS - no other info
That red SS was ex.the Maserati UK collection a while back when it was all sold off. If I recall correctly it sold at auction for just under £46k a few years ago, I'll have a flip through some back issues and see if I can find it. The dealer is only a mile or so away from me, think I'll have a quick peek after the school run tomorrow. Anyone else seen this Verde Gemma car in Germany? It seems awfully late in production to be sporting an early style twin plug head casting, and yet the dealer says matching numbers..... 1970 Maserati Ghibli - Coupe 4.7 V8 | Classic Driver Market All the best. Mark.
Hi Mark Thanks for the info. The Verde car is odd, my car is 1969 with the toggle switches and I have the v2 single head casting engine and I assumed that cars with rocker switches would all have the the updated engine but who knows given they way they built them. On the red car I think it may be on for £250k+. JD classics were asking £350k for their low miles RHD SS and its now under offer.
Engine arrived back today after a full rebuild. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Hiltsuk... Will you be keeping the oil cooler set-up shown in your picture, or will you be converting the engine to a spin-on oil filter set-up? Mike
I will probably keep it as I am trying to stay as close to stock as possible and won't be changing the filter myself but its a good point and I have read the posts about the issues with coolant leakage and potentially using a conversion kit. Something to raise with the garage before I take over the car.
I noticed that odd profile too Ivan. I had a quick look at the car in the flesh this morning and the shut lines on the opposite side are really quite good and the chrome looked nice. The showroom was shut so I couldn't see the suspect door at all however. Rosso Fuoco as a colour really does a Ghibli no favours at all IMHO. beauty in the eye of the beholder etc etc... Mark
I was wondering if this happens only as aftermath of some crash, or if it could also be related to the body which bends over the years.
Most likely improper rust repairs to the bottom of the door. I bet if you run your hand along the bottom of that door it will be very thick. Ivan
Mine looked similar after patches were welded over the rust holes then filler and lots of it was added over the top!
back in the seventies that is .....these cars were not the collector items they are now remember and the repair standards of today weren't justified in the minds of the current custodians Julian
The owner of Ghibli SS 2112 is buying a Daytona spider conversion and has asked me to help him sell his coupe. This is a car I purchased some years ago from the second California owner and then proceeded to own it two times after that. Photos from the last time I owned this Ghibli SS can be seen here: The Car Nut - 1972 Maserati Ghibli SS Rebuilt engine, 5-speed, power steering, quad exhaust, Borrani wires, tools, manuals, luggage set. This car runs and sounds great! Ivan Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks like a great example. In the UK this car would be advertised by a dealer at around $500k (see my post on DD classics and JD Classics above).
Radio question: The radio installed on my car is a Motorola FM210A, unfortunately not working. I've tried to give it to a specialist but he told me that the FM circuit is gone and he can't find spare parts to replace it. So I though that the problem was easily solvable replacing the radio with a Becker Europa: when I tried to fit it the two knob supports were too short so the face center didn't come out of the hole in the console and neither it was possible to fit the knobs. The point is: what was the "factory" radio installed on early cars? Image Unavailable, Please Login
There's no warranty to find the radio model printed on the build sheet. And there is no certainty that Maserati still has the build sheet of my car. Anyway there weren't 200 different radio models installed, probably they were no more than 2/3 different types. By the way, the Motorola installed on my car is correct for 1967, so I bet that the radio was installed by the importer in Tacoma, probably because back then the FM standard was scarcely used in Italy. Most radio were only AM/OM. I've seen Beckers installed from factory, but actually the Europa doesn't fit.
Have you asked Fabio which original documents Maserati has for your car? Gene is correct, you should start by looking at the build sheet. The information might also be on the Technical sheet. Ivan
If the build sheet is where are listed colors and options, I already have it but there's nothing sbout the radio. Francesco
