    I was talking about the last carb'd V8 ferrari made with a friend. He said that the 246 dino was the last carb'd Ferrari and didn't know which was the last carb'ed V8, but I said the 308 was. It appears he may be correct. Can someone tell me so I can settle this bet?

    Its the 308 and BBi and 400, I think they all went to FI in 82, about 8 years after the 246 dino ceased prod.

    Surely, someone with the username "boxerman" knows what the "i" in BBi" stands for. ;)

    Without checking my database, my guess would be that the last carbureted production Ferrari was a 512 BB. The last carbureted V8 would most likely be a 308 GTB or 308 GTS.

    Sorry I'm late, Wayne - I'll keep my reply limited to mere serial numbers (so that the inelegance of full VINs doesn't confuse you or make you uncomfortable ;)).

    The last-known carbureted Ferrari V8 was s/n 34503, a 1980 308 GTB (the last carbureted 308 GTS was 34501).

    The last-known carbureted Ferrari V12 was 38487, a 1981 512 Berlinetta Boxer.

    I don't know when the last carby 512BB was but the V12 400 carbed version shifted to fuel injection and became the 400i in early 1979.

    Odd trivia, the serial number of the last carbed 400 is later than the serial number of the first 400i!

    There's similar instances for many of the model change-overs and lots of other anomalies (how many cars have claimed to be 99999 for example)

    Well...it is not odd, at least by Ferrari standards. On the contrary, it was, at the time, very usual to have the last cars of a model (or a version) produced in the same period of time than the new ones. For instance, from June to September 1989, the first 348s were produced side by side with the last 328s: the first 348s have chassis numbers beginning inthe 81500 range, the last 328s ending at 83136.

    As for the last carburated V8s, should we want to be absolutely sure, we should then check with our italian friends. Without being too pedantic, my understanding is that the carburated V8 of only 2 litres capacity, sold only on the Italian market, may well have been sold here until the summer of 1982, without ever having a "2-valve injected" step from 1980 to 1982, as the 3 liter variant did. It was directly superceeded by the "208 Turbo".

    Yes, it was. Instead of producing the GT4 in an injected version, the factory replaced it entirely with the Mondial.

    Oh, ****! My bad! I thought the Mondial 8s had the same engines as the carbureted 308s - I guess they had the two-valve injected 308s engines?

    The "best carbs" of course were the NON CAT engines (pre 1978 in America, thru 1980 in Europe)..

    I am sad now, and have to go grill ribeyes and drink beer, to recover!
