I wanted to FINALLY take the time to introduce myself to you f-chatters after lurking for a couple years now. My name is Andrew and most people simply refer to me by my last name, "Farkas." I'm a young gent here to share my enthusiasm for the 348/355, as I have for many other automotive platforms in including Toyota, VW, Audi, most recently Porsche, and hopefully, Ferrari! Like anyone else, I grew up with multiple exotic car posters hanging all over my room, and two years ago I was able to acquire my first Porsche which has been a great car since day one. It's been a lot of fun contributing to the great people over at Rennlist and I hope to participate here more often now that my search for a 355 is picking up pace. I've been reading these forums for a while now and I feel I'm ready to take on my very first f-car. It is with a heavy heart that I would have to part ways with my 964 to make it happen, but I believe it would be very rewarding in the end. As mentioned, I'm a younger guy at the age of 28 working a stable career in IT, with a modest house and salary, so my search will likely be arduous and thorough to find the right car to fit me and my life style. I am very much aware the cost of maintenance going forward, but like I said, I feel this would make ownership of a 355 that much more rewarding. This brings me to the part where I ask for your help in any way at all. No, I'm not asking for donations lol- I'm hoping I can get some leads on a great 355, possibly from another f-chatter, or simply a gem found online! I'm specifically looking for a 355 Berlinetta in no specific color, and gated is a must. I'm certainly not looking for a concourse car by any means as I am everything but afraid to put miles on such a fine machine. I'm really looking for a driver's car that may need a little TLC in the beginning, as I'm certainly not shy of turning a wrench and working out issues on my own. The closer I can keep to the budget of 50k, the better! Anything north of 60k would put me in a position I rather not be as I've already budgeted a fair bit of money in expectations of possible repairs necessary. TL;DR - I've come here to begin my search for a 355 and would love everyone's advice and possible leads on a great car to share my enthusiasm with. Anyhow, I'll share a few pictures of my 964 that I have been incredibly lucky enough to enjoy the past two years. It may not be done up to everyones' taste and I completely understand that, but I still share the same enjoyment as everyone else surrounding these beautiful machines! IMG_8774 by Andrew M. Thank you in advance!
Welcome to forum Farkas, and that is one sexy 964, excellent work! I too came from owning a 911 and Boxter, sold both to buy my first Ferrari a 348TB. Also posted on Rennlist regularly same username. After owning it for 6 months now, I don't miss my Porsche's at all. Good luck on your search, 50k sounds more than reasonable for a fixer upper.
btw, nice A1 Rabbit! I've owned several A1 Cabrolet's and VW's in my lifetime. Here is my last one I sold back in 2008: Image Unavailable, Please Login
hahah nice! great looking cabby you had! I actually picked that rabbit diesel up with an expired motor and decided I would swap a VR into it for fun. Was a great little side project for me and enjoyed every minute of it. I go back and forth between driving it and the 964- both of them are a riot to drive! Thanks for the welcoming!
Welcome! You'll need the cash ready, the wits to move quickly, the knowledge of what (and who) to look for in a prospective car, and some good old-fashioned luck. The Classifieds section may or may not have a Berlinetta at any given time, and now and then a forum member in the 355 section may think about selling. Autotrader shows about 2-3 non-Spiders for sale nationwide. You're in a hot room, and it's not going to cool down anytime soon! Stick around and you'll quickly become familiar with the cars that we see for sale. A few of us are also very well-connected in Ferrari ownership circles, and may be able to help you find a car that isn't publicly listed. Best of luck.
Welcome to the forum. A lot of people with great knowledge just as rennlist. The 355 is a very unique and a beautiful machine. Nice 964. I'm looking for a 964 to buy myself just because I love the car but 355>964. Honestly, I can't believe the 964 and the 355 can be bought for the same price these days. I missed the 964 train few years ago so I'm willing to buy it at a premium to complete my stable. Your timing is a little off. The 355 prices are rising rapidly. Hurry! Good luck on the hunt.
very nice introduction, welcome! I also came from Porscheland...first owned a '94 964 cab then moved on to a 993 C4 coupe. really enjoyed both cars but of the two, wish I had held on to the 993. anyway, the 355 is a fantastic car and fchat is an incredible resource...hopefully we can help get you in a good car but as others here note, it is getting competitive out there. do your homework, know the process and be prepared to move quickly when you find a good one.
Invested a great deal of time and networked with some amazing folks on FChat and landed a beauty. The price point may be a slight obstacle on a GTB, but you have come to the right place.. Best of luck.
Many thanks for the warm welcoming I have received here so far. I realize I have my work cut out for me but I'm not going to let that deter me from finding the car I've always wanted. As mentioned, I realize The price of these great cars have been going up quite a bit since I've started looking. The price of these great cars have been going up quite a bit, which I am also familiar with on all the old air cooled Porsches. Hopefully I can find what I want and be in a position where I can jump on a quick sale for the right example. I figured if I was ever going to get the 355 I want, now is the time!
Now that you've set your sites on what you want, the truly fun part begins, THE HUNT. It may become arduous at times, but you'll look back on the process as being a mostly positive, yet invaluable experience. Good luck, welcome to the brotherhood and keep us in the loop a your search goes on Andrew. Cheers, Henry
Farkas, the most important question is - - Who are those girls? You may be having some regrets about the 964, don't. I have a spectacular '89 911, and it just sits in the back of the garage while I go out have s-x with my 355. A couple of weeks ago, a friend and I were going on a "run what you brung" drive, and he decided to take his 993 Twin Turbo. He fell down some stairs the night before the trip, so I drove the whole day. It is a seriously fast car, but didn't offer the dirty thrills that the 355 gives. You won't look back.
You'll have to forgive me, but which girls are you speaking of? It's a bit reassuring so many people are saying forget the 964. Yes, it's a great car, but do I see myself keeping it forever? Not at all. It was a car I had to have at one point, but certainly not a car I would consider my "dream car." A 355 is exactly what dreams are made of
Now I see. When I clicked IMG_xxxx to see the pic you wanted to show, then clicked the arrow to advance to more pics, I got a pic of four professional honeys selling something.
