Hi All , Looks like I need a new ECU for the ABS system on my 412. Any ideas for an economical replacement ? This cannot be a part unique to Ferrari ! Would appreciate some help. Thanks Jerry
Jerry, Isn't this an ATE part ? Should be a label on it somewhere. If You could provide this info it might be of help to identify it. This is a repairable unit as any other electronic part. If it is declared faulty it could be repaired by a proper specialist for a fraction of the cost of a new part.
Should be in the rear of car,either under rear shelf or at left/right wing. Probably manufactured by ATE. When you get to it you'll se a label with "ATE" and original part nr. 126057. You said you probably need a new ECU. Has the system been checked and ECU deemed defect ?
Could not find it in boot ! I have had all sensors checked and they are OK which led me to believe it was the ECU. But they are expensive . When it stops raining I will have another search for it. Best regards and thanks for the help Jerry
To get to the ABS ecu you'll need to remove ( unscrew) the trim panel (front of the boot ) to get access to the space behind the seats.
Good day Arvid, Although the ECU is a electronic device it may not be that easy and/or possible to repair. I say this, as most of these specialty auto controllers have their electrics encased in an electrical epoxy (i.e they are potted). Thus getting access to the electronics is not straightforward and requires a number of steps which could actually damage the electronics. Secondly, at times, these specialty devices use custom electronic parts (i.e. the main processor/controller, etc) and so finding a suitable replacement can be very challenging. Lastly, given that this is the ABS ECU and indirectly is a life safety device, I would imagine a number of typical electronic repair shops may shy away, as if they touch it they could be liable if it were to fail. However, there may be some specialty repair shops that do these type of repairs (perhaps even authorized) and if so this would be a suitable direction. With all that being said...It could be something simple... like a pinched wire at the connector, some corroded/oxidized connector contacts, etc. Cheers, Sam

I am lucky to have Keys Motorsport up the road and they have offered to replace my ecu with the one from their own 412 to see if the problem genuinely lies with my ecu and we will go from there. I will let you know what happens. The problem manifested itself by the fact that the abs light did not come on . Mine had never worked since I bought the car. So if you have a 412 , and the abs light does not come on at ignition , then you have a problem. Jerry
The ABS ECU checks the system when ignition is switched on. While in progress the ABS-light is turned on and if all ok it turns light off. It would seem the ECU does not perform this check due to either beeing faulty or bad connections in the circuit. Could be a number of reasons that the circuit isn't working. -Defect ECU -Bad connections in circuit (corrosion,faulty wiring) -Blown fuse for ABS-system -Blown lightbulbe in instr.panel Nice of Keys Motorsport to offer help and it should disclose if the ECU is at fault. Usually it's the minor faults that's the culprit but,knowing my close friend Murphy,it could also be the most expensive ones I don't know about the 412 but my 400 has a wiring diagram in the user manual that would be of help in similar situations. At least here in the US a cottage industry has sprung up around repairing ABS modules. If nothing similar in the UK that is an inexpensive item to ship back and forth. I have personal and satisfactory experience with Module Masters ; ModuleMaster
You did check the bulb? Also did you check the function of the anti skid? You might try to find a slippery surface and see if the brakes lock up or not.
