These farts. I know its V8 vs V6 but in the video when the 488 got revved and hit the limiter it was a very similar sound. So Im pretty sure it might fart upon upshifting when it actually drives. That would not be good imo

I heard the same. In one video I have heard some major pops and cracks

While I'd agree the sound of the 458 is truly classic, and I love the growl of the N/A V8 in my current car, it doesn't seem like turbos have hindered things too much from what I can tell. While I want a car that sounds good, I do love the tech-side of turbos, and sacrificing that evocative scream a bit for 660bhp and more torque than an F12 seems a happy trade off, particularly if the car remains musical.

Ok, I had to back on YouTube and find a couple of tubi f40 videos, and you're right. Turbos can scream, and the 488 does sound like the f40 (when the 488 isn't hitting rev limiter), so maybe the 488 can sound like a tubi f40 if the exhaust compay can get it by regulations. But on the bright side, it still sounds better than the 650S.

Funny that people are still mentionning that a Ferrari with turbos will not have at all a good sound: just have a look on this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YPabCzxMXM , I was doing the same ride with mine (88779) few years ago on the same track, and I can tell you that a ferrari turbo can be quite insane!

The turbo lag can be entertaining at that level. I drove an original 911 turbo and that thing was an extremely good ride. Very involving

There is NO turbo lag in the 911 2015 Turbo S...
Much different from the previous version (I have owned both)..
The 488 wilt have any Turbo Lag - I just hope it has a soul...and sound...

Do you think you'll be able to tell the difference between a 0.7 second throttle response and a 0.8 second throttle response?

Had to comment on this for a second....

A 0.1 second delay is 100ms -- which is a noticeable latency to some people, including me.
(If there are any musicians/producers out there, you'll know what I'm talking about for sure).

100ms in Call of Duty is the difference dominating and complete frustration ;)

BTW, saw it today in person. If you're more into the design and the experience, I think a used 458 is the car to have.

Side intakes ruin the car IMO. No way those intakes are the ideal design for such a car. Looks like they didn't plan for it when they first designed the 458 and now they have no other options given the engineering constraints of the engine. $100 says this isn't a design trend and that no other Ferrari will ever have intakes like this going forward.

100ms on top of 700ms when you're mashing your foot to the floor is entirely different to 100ms latency in your signal chain when you're trying to lock in perfectly.

    Someone on RT posted this.

Here's how it sounds revving up close.

Actually the 458 was originally designed with side intakes according to LdM. He wanted a cleaner look and they came back with the clean looking 458 available today. Now it appears these intake scoops are a rather large necessity however on the 488 version. Cooling has become a more important design consideration with each new generation of the hot V8 models.

No denying the necessity for cooling But they could have done a more ELEGANT solution :-/

The 488 is a supercar so it kind of suits its character. Curious how for example more introvert Aston Martins will create enough cooling as they will also go turbo.

Aston Martin with it's front engine location is a completely different design problem for cooling requirements

Well turbos run hot. Any problems with the Cali T on the track or in hot climates? Of course it is front engine as well.

Lol, actually to their credit I think they tried to keep a the trademark high pitched
tone of the engine, the problem for me is that loud turbine whine...

To be fair also remember that this is a stock and unmodded 488, i am sure some
little mods could make things more interesting :D
