Bounty Killer (Netflix) Just wanted something cheesy and mindless and it delivered. Was kinda fun. Excellent car/woman combo!
The Interview Finally got around to watching this film. HORRIBLE!!!!! If anything, Diana Bang was pleasant to look at.
Birdman..painful,and not in a good way. ..and parts of The King and I,the one with Yul..and it was gorgeous and sumptuous and beautiful..Oklahoma used to be my favorite R&H thing but King is now king. Cheers, RE
King & I and Oklahoma were great, like most Rodgers & Hammerstein collabos, but you liked them more than The Sound of Music? That's very high praise, indeed!....T
Fast & Furious 7. Really really horrible movie. The last part was a touching tribute to Paul. Over 2 hours of complete was of time.
I think they kinda ran outta ideas and just decided to write a plotless storyline. Paul's unfortunate passing made things worse. I'll be waiting for the next Avengers now.
There was so much over-the-top action in FF7 that Michael Bay thought they should have toned it down...
I just saw FNF7 in Imax and found it entertaining. It's what I call "stupid entertainment" in that I go to see action scenes that are so ridiculous they end up being hilarious. I wouldn't tell anyone to try to take the storyline seriously, but it is entertaining and worth the money imo to see it on the big screen. The ending was a very nice touch as Paul Walker was a real car guy and car guys are becoming more and more rare as the younger generations look at cars only as appliances. The movie gets a thumbs up from me from a sheer entertainment perspective.
Well, i just hope he won't come out with another transformers movie. Besides the first one, the rest was utter crap.
What are these 'Transformers' movies you speak of? On a serious note I was bored and forced to watch 2 and 3 and 3 was way better, imo, but Comic-Con ventures are not my "cup of tea". No disrespect intended, I should go to bed.
American Sniper. Better than I thought it would be, dialogue seems very realistic. Most of the Iraq stuff was well done. Excluding the cheesy final firefight. Taya Kyle was an advisor on the movie and I wonder how accurate some parts were or how Chris Kyle was in real life and not this idealized Bradley Cooper portrayal. Overall decent movie, expected a C and was pleasantly surprised with a B-
Transformers 4 grossed over a billion dollars worldwide. He will get to make as many as he likes if box office performance like that continues. He is confirmed for Transformers 5 BTW.
I know. But numbers doesn't make it a great movie. People pay to see what is it about. Just ask this board and see how many actually found T4 was good, and how many would want to see T5..
I think I watched most of the first Transformers movie. Saw maybe a few minutes of the 2nd one, and maybe a scene or two of the 3rd? None of that was at the theater, or via purchased or rented physical media. Couldn't watch any more than that, and I can sit through some pretty crappy movies. No interest in looking into 4 or 5. For the paragraph above? You can replace the word "Transformers" with "Fast & Furious," and it would be every bit as accurate for me. No, not quite true - I am fairly certain that I watched the entire original "Fast & the Furious," (and, it was OK) but the rest is dead on.
But the studio only sees that Michael Bay + Transformers = $1B+. They may know they are not very good movies but making that much per, they don't care. For the recordI liked T1 & T3 was OK. Interesting stuff in T2 but writer's strike meant it was rushed and incoherent. T4...meh. If anyone watches Black Sails on Starz it is produced by Michael Bay, and has some really tense scenes that are not solely insane action, although some of that is in the series too. Maybe in T5 they can bring back Shia Lebouf and Megan Fox, only to kill them off in a great storyline.
Exodus: Gods and Kings. Liked it much more than I thought I would by how it looked in the trailers. Less supernatural stuff (obvious intervention from God), more portrayed as natural disasters that could be explained away if someone had that frame of mind (as Pharoh's advisers attempted to do). Concentrated more on Moses and Ramses acting as real people, rather than limited roles they have in a few passases in the Bible. The plagues were really well done, with the tenth (firstborn dead) especially shot well. You zoom in on the child's face and hear and see his breathing, then as the shadow darkness of God's wrath passes over the house, you see the breathing stop. Really simple and well made.
"birdman". boy, does showbiz hate critics or what!? very disjointed, rambling, nonsensical. its one of those movies than means whatever you want it to mean. kinda artsy fartsy.
Ordered "Taken 3" on PPV for tonight and have popcorn ready. Having seen "Taken" about 15 times, love it, and "Taken 2" about 5 times (not as good as the original but still worthy) I am hoping 3 is worthy. PLEASE NO SPOILERS!!! I will 'Siskel & Ebert' it afterwards.
Interested to hear your take on Taken 3, Gregg. Taken is one of the few modern movies I can watch over and over. The chase scene along the Seine in that Audi was awesome! Taken 2 was OK, but not up to standards of the original IMO....T
