Sooo you're implying that some 458 owners suffer the mental stress of owning and loving their 458 yet secretly crave the wondrous new technology and performance of the 488 and that these two beliefs are contradictory. As these owners become psychologically uncomfortable they are motivated to ameliorate the dissonance by belittling the sound, intakes and rims of the 488. You are a disciple of the Leon Festinger dogma aren't you doc?
"Put the 488 out of it's misery" What do you think APC123, can our boy Z do a case report on himself? 😷😂
Drive a 2015 Porsche TURBO S - NO Lag At All.. And I have owned the last three Turbo versions also.... and own a 458 (first coupe and now spider). No fan of Turbo S sound - sounds like a vacuum cleaner. I am willing to bet that the 488 will be a technical marvel - my concern is whether it will be a emotional marvel too like the 458? As a TIFOSI I want Ferrari to best every other car manufacturer but I am skeptical of the Turbo engines emotional feel and for those who compare it to F40 - in the days F40 was built they did not have to worry about emissions - mileage - and did not have competitors like Mc Laren breathing down their throat....
Which was exactly what many said about he 458 prior to launch in comparison to the F430 and those that went before. Don't worry, this is Ferrari. Of all the car companies they understand better than anyone what their essence is. A sterile V8 is not coming our way any time soon.
Going down London to see it tomorrow. Pretty excited to be honest yaaaaaaay. In my experience all their cars are more cut and angular in person, I'm expecting this of the 488 too.
My understanding is that turbo lag is noticeable at loer RPMs as the turbos are not fully spooled up...at max RPMs there is little to no lag as the turbos are fully spooled up.
My experience in the 12c was lag everywhere ona hot day, and inconsistent pull throught he rev range. On cool day it was much sharper and a lot faster. There is a large performance delta in turbo cars depending on ambient conditions, I would read any performance stats with a grain of salt.
To quote the Wiki, regarding twin-scroll turbochargers as featured in the 488 GTB engine: In addition to this, Ferrari have utilised extremely lightweight fans, in addition to low-density alloy: With the Porsche Turbo S offering no discernible lag and beating it's manufacturer claimed 0-60mph time with a staggering 2.6 seconds, I don't think it seems likely that Ferrari will allow their new offering to fall far short of this sort of capability.
Not really. 50% more of a very small number is still a very small number These cars don't really use downforce for performance at anything other than very high speed...
Can someone please line up a 355, 360, 430, 458 and 488 and rev each in turn to settle this once and for all.
Someone else commented that the 488 frame has been modified so that the motor sits in a lower position than the 458 design?
Turbo in neutral. Wait till u hear at WOT under highway overpass or in tunnel. https://youtu.be/ZHolMDXZSkY
