Correct me if I'm wrong but there were more F40's built than Challenge Stradales. I suspect this is what is helping fuel the price jumps. There just aren't that many Stradales. What would be more interesting is to try to narrow down how many are left.
I would never diminish the CS but, I don't think you can really compare F40 and CS markets. As to number made, I think there were 1,280 CS, and 1,315 F40 made. How many USA CS are there? I've heard the number is in the 400 range. There were 211 USA F40 made with 2 LM cars I believe. So we can cherry pick but I think trying to compare CS and F40 markets is like trying to compare 288 GTO to 250 GTO. Just different cars with different purposes from different eras. Each great in its own way.
When people are priced out of one tier or echelon they look to what they like and can afford in the next lower tier. The F40 prices have been pulled up by people who were priced out of Enzos; the 330s and the Daytonas by the 275s; the 250 PF Cabs by the Cal Spiders; the Lussos and 275s by the SWBs; the SWBs by the GTOs, etc... I personally don't put the CS in the same tier or echelon as the F40, but I do see it as one tier below and for that reason I think the analogy, connection and price support argument make sense.
Nobody is saying a CS is an F40. I can't afford an F40. So I have a CS. Supply and Demands still dictates the price. Both cars are rare.
Would like to seek collective wisdom in this thread. A friend wants to buy my CS. Background - Red (rosso something), no stripe, no radio, 24xxx miles. No accident (as far as I and carfax know). Challenge-Stradale.com - Ferrari 360 CS VIN 134391 (wing and radio removed prior to my delivery). also here http://sanfranciscosportscars.com/2004-ferrari-360-stradale/ I don't really know how to price the car. My idea was to bring to FoSV or FoSF for trade in value. Sell to him at that price. I don't really want to under or over charge him. Since I know I can get XXX amt at a dealer, I figure I should give him right of first refusal. I'm guessing $140-145K Any other ideas? Thanks.
no idea on $$$ to subjective... but I think your on the right track, if it is a friend. Get trade in value and give him first shot... No matter what goes down after that there will be no hard feelings.
As you know the CS market is very limited and not every dealer will be up to date on pricing them. I know Fo SV hasn't sold one since 2012. F o SF recently sold one for $219K. So they will probably have a better idea. Also ask Brad over at SF Sports Cars. He knows the trade in value better than both of these dealers. Hope that helps.
I got my CS from Phil from SFSC. He offered to help me sell if I so decide. I am on the fence about selling until my friend wants to make an offer.
This question was for Stokpro but the number that has been mentioned few times is 1288 worldwide and he can confirm that.
Thank you BTW, over in the 458 forum they are saying the total number of 458 Speciales worldwide will be fewer than 1000. I'm not sure I believe this, but at least a couple guys claim they have good sources.
I have a stated value policy on the CS. I've had it at $140k for years and I guess I'd better raise it. Thoughts? (Hard to say what the market is nowadays) RS with factory stripe, full leather interior, 19k miles. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
here's that black no stripe CS that I mentioned that would be coming available. One owner, 1800 miles, $299.9k. Image Unavailable, Please Login
All - my insurance company wants some sort of appraisal in order to raise my agreed value policy. Can anyone help me here?
I use State Farm (Utah) and they are suggesting that we change from a traditional policy to some kind of "classic car agreed value" policy. They said I'd need an appraisal. Given how rapidly the prices of Stradales have seemingly jumped the past few months I'm wondering how best to go about coming up with an appraised value? I suppose I can ask my Ferrari dealer.
+1. I use Grundy...If I raise the value, they raise the yearly cost by some amount. "Agreed Value" is simply that...It should not require an appraisal.
I would think if you site the 2 auction sales in January, as well a few of the latest dealer ads, they should get the picture.
