Parts book no help Any detailed pics available of pieces which hold springs compressed on shock units? NOT similar to 308 style Any available? Dimensions-detailed specs-so I can make them? Pics are helpful Can't even get good pics! Book no help at all Thanks all
Here is the shock and spring taken apart from top to bottom, had the springs powder coated, everything else was glass/walnutshell/oxide blasted. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Never seen one apart--so the answer for the OP is nothing holds the compressed spring on the shock--remove from car and disassemble.
You need an Alan Key to hold the shock strut stationary, just back the top nut off. The whole assembly is not under a great deal of compression from the main spring. Reinstallation requires an outside spring compressor, basically you need to compress the spring enough to start the top nut. I used a loner from AutoZone. Wrapped the spring with some tape in order not to scratch the powder coat. Hope that helps...... Image Unavailable, Please Login
If it is a TR, he is probably talking about the 2 half round, round stock keepers that fit in the groove on the shock. Those are typically what is removed to release spring pressure. Those are however like the 308 but may differ dimensionally.
Boxer Pics look like TR Been 20 yrs since I had a TR carriage out so senility is showing-can't remember at all Boxers kinda remind me-sort of-like why's used on daytonas to lock springs down onto shock tubes??? Can't find any Gonna have to whittle them from that rarest of French alloys: "billay"(billet) :-}
Actually they are pretty different at the upper end. The lowers on both use the round stock (6 or 7 mm ) half round keepers. The uppers on TR have a plate secured by a nut on the shock shaft and BB had a big flat plate with a large center hole to fit over the shock eye. That had 2 half moon stepped plates that locked into a groove just under the shock eye.
