They bought cheap 2nd hand wings and now they're just separating and peeling back from the edges ;)

More business for repair stations with composite experience. The 'old' ones (that just go up) are damaged frequently due to ground incidents. Can only imagine these will be worse.

Are you referring to split ends? Hair shampoo should help.

The original wing tip devices could be taller but it would have caused additional weight, flutter, and vibrations. So, the tip flow was directed down with the split. Still bleeding off draggy vortices.

The head of Aviation Partners is Joe Clark. The money behind it is Dennis Washington. When they started with the G-II Al Paulson had a piece of it.

The winglet for the 737-700IGW was originally disparaged to the extreme by the Boeing engineers. When the BBJ showed 5+% improvement they quickly shut up. On the BBJ the winglets eliminated one step going to final altitude.

The slit scimitar is another improvement that is giving some more % improvement over the standard winglet.

Boeing realized how good the Aviation Partners winglet was and forced a partnership called Aviation Partners-Boeing. This structure is only for Boeing projects.
