Are there any 458 owners that upgraded to an Aventador?

Hello all, I've had the privilege of owning a 2011 458 coupe and so far, it's been great. But it's always been a dream of mine to own a V12 Lamborghini, and now I am financially capable of doing so. If I may ask other 458 owners out there who have upgraded to an Aventador, what are the pros and cons of doing so? I understand that the Lambo has a "more aggressive" gearbox, but what's the car to live like in the long term. This car will be my "weekend" car, so I'm not too concerned about practicality, everyday usability, etc. It's really tempting to upgrade but I do still like the Ferrari very much. Cheers.

As in traded in their Ferrari for the Lamborghini. It is an upgrade, both in terms of price and performance.

Sorry but with all due respect, if you are comparing new cars.
I cannot understand how you could call going from ferrari to Lamborghini an upgrade.
Great to have as a second car if you can, but this is no upgrade.

Lamborghini's are for posers. That "aggressive" gearbox you are talking about is not aggressive, it's useless especially in traffic. I rode in a friend's Aventador a while back and the gear changes are so jerky, especially when driving around town in stop and go traffic. The only thing Lambo's are good for is showing off with it's ridiculous scissor doors. Stick with Ferrari

The car is stunning and would be considered and upgrade in most people books. The question is what is it like to drive around town in your location? Bad roads, narrow roads and lots of traffic may not be very enjoyable to drive even on the weekends. The Lambo is very wide and you sit lower then the 458...making town driving unnerving. The 458 is attention getting but there would be no comparison to the amount of attention you would get in the Lambo...it's a moving road show. Good luck and post pictures if you decide to pick up the Lambo.

 

Ferrari's are for CLASS and Lambos are for ASS...

 

The Aventador is truly a unique car in looks and feel.
I traded my 2014 458 Spider for my Aventador and it's a completely different experience. The drive & smoothness of the ride is much more comfortable than the 458 and the car has a lot more power. A lot of people talk about the gearbox not being as good as Ferrari and that's true but only in the "auto setting". In manual I think it's on par with the 458. You will also get a lot more attention ( not also a good thing and something I personally don't care for) The biggest draw back for me on the Lambo is the size and it's not as nible as the 458 .

The color you're looking at is the same one I have and every time I go in my garage I think what a beautiful car and color combo IMo. I say go for it and you can also pick up a 458 later on again. I will be trading mine in when my Speciale comes next month and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one in the future .

I have a 458 and my father has an Aventador. I've driven both and I will say that the drive of the Ferrari is unrivaled. The Lambo is not an 'easy' car to drive. The shape and size of it don't help in that department. The transmission is the biggest mistake Lambo made by not implementing a double clutch gearbox.

The lambo garners a disgusting amount of attention but it is a lot of fun to drive. Also, I do prefer the interior of the lambo to the Ferrari much more advanced.

 

So the LaFerrari with its doors is only for "posers"? The Speciale with its giant racing stripe is only for showing off? Pulleease! Ferrari owners can be just as guilty as Lambo owners for "posing" . If he likes it I say go for it!

 

Good advice from a few real owners above.
Love the looks, drama, exclusivity, interior, power...all are ++ vs the 458.

Not where I'm from mate. here in London, they are a dime a dozen.

 

I'm fortunate enough to own both. I had an Aventador Coupe and presently own a Roadster. To me they are completely different driving experiences. Its already been said, but the 458 is a drivers car in almost every aspect, it's simply the perfect balance of performance, handling and driving comfort. As others have mentioned, its also very drivable around town, easy to see out of and easy to maneuver in traffic. The Aventador is the polar opposite, its less about balance and all about being dramatic. This does make for an incredibly exciting car to drive. From sitting in the cool fighter-jet like cockpit (though I do feel Ferrari interiors seem more special and bespoke) to the brute force shifts and acceleration, to the shocked looks and sometimes crazy reactions you get driving around town. Its true that the car gets an almost unwelcome level of attention, which sometimes leads to people doing dangerous things to catch a closer look or snap a picture. Personally I feel the Aventador is one of the most dramatic and good looking cars of our time and I have absolutely enjoyed the time that I have owned it. That said, its extreme design also creates a few negatives, the raked windshield and a-pillars takes a little getting use to and it has the worst blind spots of any car I have driven, the Roadster its even worse than the coupe. The wide sideview mirrors help a little, but the C-pillars are so large that the lack of visibility makes lane changes almost unnerving at times. As for the interior, the seats are comfortable and its an easy car to sit in for a long period of time, but it feels cramped compared with the open layout of the 458 cabin. I personally wouldn't consider the Aventador as an upgrade to the 458 and because I am less about the drama I would probably keep the 458 over the Aventador. I certainly wouldn't replace my 458 Speciale for it, which to me is the logical upgrade from the 458 Italia/Spyder. Again, they are very different experiences, so you have to decide what appeals the most to you. Since you are just driving these on the weekends, either would work well.

 

I own both plus a few other cars. These cars are for a different audience. I like them both.

For driving the 458 is a better car to enjoy. To be honest the 458 is to soft for me I liked my 460 or 430 better. The better comparison for the 458 is a Galardo I owned both of these cars together they were 2010s.

I have not driven the new Hurcan however it is spelled. I bought the Aventador instead mine is a 2013 and 700hp the 2014 is 720hp. In my mind the Aventador is one of the most stunning cars on the road. It drives well but is not really a sports car, more a high speed cruiser. Both my Ferrari and the Lamborghini have given good service.

I personalty like my Audi R8 V10 as a better drivers car. My only regret is I did not buy a Audi GT which has more HP.

What has surprised me is the new Corvette and how well they drive. In my view they out handle all of these cars except the Audi R8. I liked it so much I went back a bought a 2015 Z/28 track car. This car has to be driven to be believed.

Setting the poser comment aside, this gentleman makes a good point on the Aventador gear box. The car has so much power the single stage gearbox feels clunky. I mentioned that to the dealer I bought the car from and they had no fix for it. In my view with high acceleration the shifts are brutal,


Owners must have complained so they have a fix. My car was done and it is a major improvement. The dual clutch in the Ferrari is still better but the Aventador is good now.

I did drive the high hp Ferrari first. It is a great car. I choose the Aventador for many reasons.

Gentlemen, I am now facing a HUGE dilemma. So on Sunday, me and a friend with a 458 Speciale met up and I told him I was thinking of trading in my Italia for an Aventador. He then told me to drive his Speciale before making the move. So we "swapped" cars for a short drive out of London, him in my Italia, me in his Speciale... And guess what, I've fallen in love with his car. It has that "raw" feeling lacking from my car, that crispness of the gearshifts, the steering feels even more sharp... bloody brilliant car in every way. To be honest, from a driving experience, I think the Aventador can't match it. He has made my life even harder, but I guess this is a good problem to have! Cheers!
