Not the fight I expected from Manny unfortunately.

If he fought the 'normal' Manny way, I reckon he would have given Floyd more trouble.

But he didn't and Floyd did just enough to win it.

I think the score cards should have been a little closer, but it don't matter. The better man won tonight.

I can't believe many thinks he was winning the fight. He won a few rounds for sure, but not the fight.

It was a tough fight for FM and he took some decent shots along the way, but nothing really troubled him.

Manny should have thrown plenty more punches and took a few more chances against him.

Either way, I enjoyed it but was definitely not the "fight of the century".

Couldn't agree more-this fight will set boxing back ten years. Many folks I know that haven't watched or paid for a fight in years ordered this event. There were "fight" parties everywhere here in the OC. A total snoozefest orchestrated by the king of the yawn-Mayweather.
Everyone I spoke with-including all those at my place said they were good for years without bothering with boxing.

--zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz---Manny came to box, but unfortunately it's hard to hit a target that's always running away.

Styles make fights and this was never going to be the slug-fest war most people want to see.

I enjoyed it too, perhaps because my expectations were in line with the outcome.

Agreed, it wasn't the fight of the century, but it was still a Superfight.

I was at a fight party tonight, actually at the lovely home of FChat's Adamas. Most folks I talked to thought the fight was just ok. The party we having, on the other hand, was most excellent - lots of interesting people to talk to.

I thought Manny would have been more frantic than even he was to try to win on points, possibly overcommitting in the later rounds and then Floyd could have had a knockout opportunity. Unfortunately, none of that happened. Both fighters looked very tentative for most of the match.

Still, I'm glad to have seen it in good company. It's been a long while since I watched boxing alongside someone who was also interested. :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

When I posted it was before we heard the result. Pacquiao was amazing. I honestly thought he won. I have first 3 rounds to Mayweather but pretty much the rest - 1 to Pacquiao... Shame.

Floyd handled Manny just as he has every other fighter he has faced. This wasn't a difficult fight for him. I like Manny but when he stated he thought he won the fight in the post fight interview I thought he must be delusional. A disappointing showing and a easy win for Floyd. There shouldn't be a rematch because no one would want to see one. Boring plain and simple.

Yep same old story. Floyd never gives an exciting performance. Over-hyped, and a lousy undercard too. Would have expected better for the "Fight of the Century". Glad I didn't miss anything, I doubt I'll watch it at all, I can play the whole thing in mind.

Not over-hyped IMO..He himself is a tactical and technical masterpiece. Only his style is not welcomed, because it is just too smart and too boring (for me, too).

Most people don´t want a fight with 12 rounds, but want to watch a fight with a KO. People are still missing a type of boxer like Mike Tyson. That´s why most of them were and are still for Manny.

What is really over-hyped? Well, the presentation and the fight money.

Seriously, there is no wonder why more and more professional athletes do MMA.

True. Whatever Tysons faults, he at least made the fights explosive...and interesting, ears and all.

"Afterwards, Pacquiao claimed his right shoulder popped in the third round. He said he had been hiding the injury for three weeks, so people are well within their rights to ask why they shelled out their hard-earned money to see Mayweather take apart a wounded man.
But given the fight was five years in the making and given the sheer size of the show, it was absolutely inconceivable that the fight might have been cancelled."

The fans (us) wanted this fight more than anything. WE hyped it up and made it a superfight moreso than any of these 2 ever could.

Mayweather has always treated boxing as a sport .. A game of wits and tactics. His approach to this fight is the same as his approach to his past fights. He's not trying to go out there destroy a guy like Tyson used to do. His game plan is to gradually and wittingly pick a guy apart punch by punch. Some expect boxing to be a form of human cockfighting... Mayweather doesn't approach the game that way.

When he didn't make the fight happen for the last 5 years, he was criticized for ducking. When he does fight and it doesn't become a slugfest the audience expects it to be, he's criticized although very rarely any of his fights are a slugfest. Mayweather is just being Mayweather.

Having said that, i felt the fight shouldve been a 15 round fight considering how tentative these two were and how often Mayweather backed up or ran out of a corner. These are two high level fighters, so they have to be selective of their punches. Physical advantage looked clearly in Floyds favor. Flloyds got his 12 round strategy on lock. No ones going to have enough time to beat him considering how he kills the clock.

That didn't stop him from telling his fans the Lord will help him deliver this fight and telling the world he felt he won the fight after it was all over.

15 rounds for sure. If they're going to have a rematch 15 rounds is better for people to shell out $100. Thrilla in Manila 2. 15 rounds in Manila. Yeah sure Floyd's going to agree to that.

    Yep.

    +1

    +1

+1. The bar where I was at all the people were pissed how a person who kept running away and hugging could've won.

+1. The crowd at the bar I was at thought so too.

The fight started of incredibly suspenseful.

At one point Pacquiao almost had Mayweather, Floyd was just taking punishment, people were going crazy.

Everytime they started hugging the excitement just droped. When Floyd made his "adjustments" that is to get on his bicycle everytime Pacquiao strikes, well, it's no more Fight of the Century.

Oh yes, I saw this. Compubox. It's all over the internet. But it didn't seem that way during the fight, it seems Pacquiao's punches were much stronger, at at least one point knocked Floyd into a daze and Floyd was just taking a beating. Mayweather like his dad and uncle have brittle hands. Pac went in with an injured shoulder and popped his shoulder in round 3 I think. Like I said swarmers have more wear and tear and Floyd waited until Manny is past his prime and is no longer the beast he was, though the two are still at/near the top.

    The debate rages on, :
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/othersports/boxing/mayweather-vs-pacquiao/11579029/Mayweather-vs-Pacquiao-live.html

From the article "After watching this fight, how anyone can say Mayweather won this fight on the skill of his boxing could not be further than the truth. If he is such a great "boxer", why whenever Pacquiao was unleashing an attack did he not "Box" his way out of trouble? instead of using last ditch tactics like grabbing and holding opponents , or failing that just run away. The only people who hit and run away are cowards. I think Mayweather chose his fighting technique of avasive, defensive wrestling with the occasional jab is because if he was drawn into an actual toe to toe boxing match, he would probably lose. People might think that's untrue and he would have won by doing that anyway......so why didn't he? People paid a lot of money to see a boxing match between 2 boxers. Only one of them boxed. Just because you avoid losing doesn't mean you win."
