Any 458 owners have a rough 1st to 2nd shift at high RPM ?
Happens even with no uplift on throttle in race mode on occasion. I wait for the led light on steering wheel to tell me when to shift.
If by "rough" you mean a bit of a thrust forward from the shift, yes indeed in race mode and higher. Many people enjoy that aggressiveness. It should tone down in sport mode.
Hmm rarely drive in sport so can't help you there. Lemme try sport tomorrow to work. Race and bumpy road suspension 99% of time.
That's because you flick the paddle too slow. For high rpm, flick it very fast, and it won't jerk. Also when downshifting, fast flick will result in gunshot sound.
Mine is very smooth at redline shifts in all gears, just make sure you don't lift the throttle even a little bit or it will jerk at times.
Have not managed to get the backfire on downsfifts yet. RPMS? Tried different levels. Upshifts were indeed smooth. I drive in Race mode Bumpy Road on. Thanks.
Flicked faster both going and coming home. Race mode. Still jerk 1-2 gear but not 100% of time. 2-3 gear buttery smooth 3600 miles DD.
Thought so, sounds like you have the original pre update 2010 software. The post-software update 2011 cars and all 2012 onwards cars have smoother 1st to 2nd shifts and slightly faster and more refined shifts throughout all gears, but no more pops and crackles from the exhaust. To make the 1st to 2nd shift smoother with the original 2010 software try not applying too much gas and not digging into the throttle too early but let the revs build slowly while giving it very little throttle, should shift smoother then. I have learned that technique as no updates for me lol
It's not the speed you flick it, but the speed you release after it. So don't flick and hold. Flick and let go as fast as possible. Also, don't release the gas pedal even just a little. I happens most of the time when shifting 1-2. But watch the traffic, don't pay attention too much to this. IMO, 458 is still better than any vaccumed engine.
Plus you can do sequential downshifts (fast multiple downshifts while continuing to hold the left paddle towards you) ONLY if you are braking.
I must have original software I have the Pops and Crackles (love that sound) ! As long as nothing is wrong with tranny I will live with the sometimes jerky shifts. I agree not hammering throttle avoids this issue.
While we're on the gremlins of the 458 - anyone else think leather quality of 458 is awful. Ie. Cracking on seat sides ? Never had issues with my 360. All 458's I've seen all start having leather probs.
Yes I understand. Fast release I was doing and no throttle lift. Throttle lift with upshift on California to generate pop. Not so with spider.
