Here is one for us of the 456 set. Thoroughbred and classic car mag picked the 456 as one of its top 5 smart buts for 2015. Pretty cool!

Great V12 Ferrari for a bargain price. They got that part correct. Kind of hard to find a 300 kph Ferrari with a V12 for any less.

Its actually gone up a fair bit over the last 6 months, but then so has everything else. Even though I own one I still keep thinking "bubble"

550s are 100k+ now. There is no reason why the 456 should not go that direction too.
crazy prices, but who would have estimated a Testarossa that high two years ago?

Top pick 2015. Hm, more than a little late in its call (2010-2013 prices were better), but still yes imho. It's the result of an expanding base of collectors, there are more Jay Leno types out there today than there were 10 years ago (for the car collector comparison, I know Jay does not do F-cars) - as well as a degree of expectation and speculation.
Bubble - its a rising tide but not a bubble as far as I can see. On the 550's and Testas maybe, which doubled. The 456 is more moderate sofar.

Another car that I missed… 2 years ago had the change to buy a green/tan 1993 manual early version (no air bag) with 20,000km for 35,000e. I love the 456 lines more than the 550/575.

Jay: you haven't missed it yet. Just the asking prices are 20-30% higher than they were 2 years ago. Nothing compared to 512's which are 100% higher.

+1. This the reason I bought the 456 over the 360 when I was looking. I didn't buy as an investment (somewhere deep down I was hoping it would be, someday, maybe 10 years down) but to drive and enjoy. Its just a classic design, for me a true GT along with the 550/575. And yes, the "but" is the best view.

When starting looking at the cars 456 and 550/575 were closer together, the price difference has been at the middle/end of the last year just 10/15.000 €. Like the design of both cars, imho after the 60/70th classical Ferraris the second decade which brought us classical and really timeless stuff from Maranello. Finally I decided for the two seater (don't need four places and the general development of the value of 2/4 seater Ferraris was more promising).

Nowadays the decision would most probably be the other way round.

For Australia the magazine importers have them shipped here by migrating whale so we often dont see them for two months after they are printed. so is it the June addition?

So after watching these cars for years I finally pulled the trigger and bought a 12,300 mile Blue/Tan 456M GTA in December. This only reinforces that decision. It has taken some time to get the belt service done and sort out the suspension actuators so we still do not have the car. I'll post pictures when my wife and I take delivery next Saturday in Pennsylvania. After that, a shake down run back to Houston. We can't wait...

Since I bought a 550 last year, I am interested in cutting loose my 456M GT. I plan on listing it within the next couple of weeks here and on FML, but if anyone is super interested, PM me. It's a 1999, 6-speed, Silver/Black. 2X K miles. I have too many Ferraris, and since my kids don't fit in the back anymore, this is the one that goes. Great cruising car.

Great article thank you. Mine has Tubi mufflers so it isn't quite as discreet, in city traffic I have noticed people look up to see where the sound is coming from.

    TDFB and Tan? Beautiful!

You will love this car. Our car came with Nitto's and have since changed to Continental DWS and the 550 wheels. An amazing change in ride comfort/control.

Have to always watch my speed as it is really easy to go way over the posted limit.

    If no Tubi's.....Add them.

Agree! the article is 5 years late....911 3.2 and BMW 2002 at bargain prices? Show me where! 911 3.2s in Europe have appreciated at least 30% over the past 5 years. I hear similar things about the US.

456 are still a great deal - can't really say that they've been rising much up until this year. I bought my 456M in 2012 and thought 2013/4 saw further depreciation (certainly as far as my car is concerned as I put an additional 18.000km on the clock, hahaha). What is different now is that there seem to be very few good cars on the market...in that the 456 market is similar to the 550/75 imho...(but not price-wise)

Absolutely the difference is probably not what the designers intended as the car is touring car, however remember the 456 engine is the same core architecture as a 550 but at a hotter cams but de-tuned intakes ( I am sure Taz will correct me on this)

My car has really early Tubi ( they are serialised!) rear mufflers
Mine is reasonable to 2000 RPM and then settles into a nice V12 growl .
My Garage is under the house and the floor up stairs vibrates at idle
This Video even though they are not Tubi Mufflers is closest sound I could find

I have tubi exhausts. Dont change the sound much. But add the resonator bypass from Bradon. Ferrari symphony!!!!
