Not sure if this one was posted yet. Somebody caught the 488 in Maranello being tested couple days ago. Good exhaust note. Also a peak at the Spyder in camouflage. This might be the first spy video of the spyder? Two Firsts: The Sound Of The Ferrari 488 GTB And A Look At The 488 GTS [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdMe5o3Qgx0[/ame]
It's been up for about week now. Not entirely sure what it is. I doubt the 488 GTS, Spider or whatever they end up calling it, won't have the side intakes. It could be 458 panels as part of the camouflage. The sound seems really odd actually. There was another vid posted with some pretty good sound. On an entirely different note. Did Ferrari ever name a car Spyder?
Ok. I missed it when it was posted then. Does sound pretty good. Glad to see the Spider being tested and wonder how soon that will lag the GTB. To answer your question I think it has always been Spider (not Spyder). However, for some reason so many times you see it spelled "Spyder" and not sure why. A simple google of "Ferrari Spyder" comes up with an endless string of hits. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#qscrl=1&q=Ferrari+spyder&nirf=Ferrari+spider
No, Spyder was the official name from the vintage models and Spider since 348 (F355 was a mistake from me).
This is an interesting table ranking all the speeds at Fiorano, Italy. The 488GTB is now in the #2 spot tied with the F12 and only below the LaFerrari. The 488 took out a long list of F cars here. Fiorano lap records - FastestLaps.com Image Unavailable, Please Login
Interesting table, I would have thought that the 458 speciale would be faster than the f12. Looks like power on the straights wins. Cool to see the 488 the same as the f12. Looking forward to the special versions of both cars.
I'm more surprised that the 458 Speciale and the 458 SA are equally fast. And it's amazing to see how the 488 blew the doors off the 599GTO by one whole second. Will be interesting to see the F12M and 488 "raw" in the future. A lot has happened since the F40 ruled the roads.
Off topic... all laptimes fit mostly within the logic but I was surprised by the Challenge Stradale equalling the Scud time with much less power. No Scud coupé time but spider versions in the table all match the coupés laptimes.
Look at the numbers. 360CS 1180 kg vs. 430 16M 1340 kg. and the CS is much stiffer than the 430 16M. Combine that with 420 bhp for CS and 503 bhp for 16M and you'll see why the CS is as fast. The 430 16M is 2.67 kg. pr. bhp, the CS is 2.8 kg. pr. bhp, it's not a huge difference. That in concert with the stiffer and more nimble CS chassis, makes for a really fast package. The gap between the 360 and 360CS is as wide as the gap between the 599GTB and 599GTO. The CS was a remarkable car and probably the most focused of the "raw" V8 cars, not counting Challenge cars of course.
That is 16m as mentioned. When the scud was released Ferrari was saying that the scud could match the Enzo around Fiorano. In fact there was an episode of fifth gear where Tiff actually tried to match his own Enzo lap around Fiorana with the Scud and basically did just that.
A few important figures in addition to the list above: Ferrari 458 Speciale - 1'23.50 - 2013 Michelin Sport Cup 2 Ferrari 430 Scuderia - 1'25.00 - 2007 Semi-slicks Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano - 1'26.50 - 2006 Semi-slicks Ferrari F430 - 1'27.00 - 2005 Semi-slicks Ferrari 360 CS - 1'28.00 - 2003 Semi-slicks I personally believe that there are to many different Fiorano lap times lists in the web.
I finally go around to doing the 488 configurator Ferrari sent me. Except fot the center bridge it looks very similar to the 458. Perhaps the seats are different. Hard to tell. Did not like the rim choices. My diamond polished wheels look much better. If i traded i would swap wheels assuming they will work. Lol Again silver is the best color...or black if you want a full time job to clean if you drive it. Iroko std seats with red stitching and red calipers. Black dash.
Well the 488 run the same tyre size as the Speciale, so I'm wondering whether or not it also uses Speciale size rims and offset. In that case, the 458 wheels will really tuck into those arches as the 10.5" wide 458 wheel offset is quite a bit higher than the 11" wide 458 Speciale wheels, and the 305 tyres on the 10.5" wheels will bulge more as well. Overall, I'm not so sure it will look "right". It's not a straight swap, that's for sure.
If I lived at your altitude I would seriously consider the TT 488 just because of the turbo. At sea level I would keep the N/A. A week ago we drove our FF up from sea level to 7100 ft, a trip we make often in a great cross country car. Once again it told me, "I want air. Give me more air."
Easier solution. Speciale rims. 2nd fastest car around fiorano, 90 more HP, more torque than F12, 50% more downforce and active aero. And people complain about OEM rims and the sound. Hilarious. I had diamond forged rims on Cali and painted sports rims on my 458 spider. Don't ever get curb rash on the diamond rims or you better have an expert wheel repair guy on speed dial. OEM in grigio corsa. $2k option. I could live with that till I procured a used set of speciale rims.
Ya, but they don't come in Diamond finish as Mr. Phil wanted For a Diamond finish the Specala A wheels will look superb on it though
Hmmm has anybody actually weighed their CS its most certainly NOT 1180 kg. from what I remember when I lowered mine and corner weighted it something like 1300 Kg with lighter battery etc and the track is the only place where a CS can move at high RPM, otherwise its as slow as a DONKEY, so please don't get into a thread that the CS is the greatest driving Ferrari since 1932 as otherwise its going down in flames like the rest of them....
What's so interesting about the lap times? They always massage them so the new model is slightly better. You really think all those official laps end in .00?
my dealer will know about allocations early next week. i am number 1 on his list and hoping for july delivery. this will put me into the league of beta-testers....oh well, if it breaks they will have to fix it... peter
