Out Ran An Acura TSX Today In Straight Line

This was a surprise. They have 3.5 vvt direct injection @ 290 hp. I am supposed to have only 260hp without vvt. He weighs a little bit more but not much. Anyway, I have come to believe, over the last two years and 10,000 miles that the purple ones are faster. Accordingly, did my simulate 1/4 mile run again which is less then 1/4 mile and is uphill. Thats why I call it simulated.

Anyway, got my best run in two years. Third gear and 7,000 rpms. I will venture a low 14 second time. My supercharged Mark VII has run many an actual 1/4 mile and was a consistent 14.4 seconds. The Mondial is at least as fast. IMHO.

 

I have it on good authority that blue ones (specifically Blu Sera) are the fastest of them all!

I was able to stay on the tail of a 348SS which means my car is just as fast as a 348SS and even though it's a 3.2, will totally spank a Mondial t.

 

Ummmm. Wanna bet?

Are you sure he had the V6 and not the 2.4L 4 cylinder??

Having driven a few 3.2's and a few T's, I can honestly say that you can feel more power and performance out of the T. But having said that, I still prefer my 88 3.2 because it just has the best overall ownership experience in terms of cost, repairing, maintenance, BIGGER cheese graters and fenders, great car for DIY guys like me to have around

Wow what a great thread with lots of info. and opinions. Being a T owner you can only guess my vote. But the real vote is.........MONDIAL,

 

My 'simulated 1/4' actually better simulates an actual 1/8 mile track. I can say that because I ran my 3.5 MAXX on a local 1/8 and turned 10.01 @ 71 mph. On my simulated track it turns about 68 mph. The supercharged Mark VII consistently turned 14.4 on the 1/4 but I forget the speed.

I think the 3.2 is going about 82 mph at 7,000 rpm. I think that because I read 'speed in gears as 90 mph @ 7,700.' At least thats my recollection. Anyway, since my little local simulated drag strip provides an actual comparison with the MAXX I looked up 1/8 to 1/4 converter and found the following. I do not believe it.

As you can see I entered weight and power for the 3.2 which generated a 1/8 mile estimate that exactly matches my observed 7,000 rpm at 82 mph in my [well tested] local run. The projected 1/4 numbers are impossible. My 3.2 is spunky, but THAT spunky?

But I have, more or less, an actual, more or less, 1/8 mile speed of 82 mph. The 1/4 interpolation should be a reasonable calculation. Assuming 7,000 rpm actually is 82 mph.

I do not know that for sure since I did not get a good look at logo. But I am confident my lighter car is faster then that little 2.4

 

We need a purple v blu shoot out! In all seriousness, eventually I will need to get to an actual track and get actual numbers. The only nearby track is a run down local 1/8 where only one of the two lanes even has a numbers print out. But it printed out my 3.5 MAXX 10.01 seconds @ 71 mph. Incidentally, this brings up an interesting speed v time issue.

Back in the old days I drag raced my prepped 2,3 Vega Station wagon many times at, I believe, Old Dominion 1/8 track. That car had a 9.9 ET but at 62 mph. In other words, it would have spanked my 3.5 MAXX by a nose hair, but almost 10 mph slower. Why, you might ask. Well, says I: I ran it up to 4,000 rpm, dropped the clutch and burned seriously hooked up rubber all the way through first gear then chirped second. That slung me out of the hole like a jack rabbit.

So I imagine doing the same with the Mondial? It certainly seems rugged enough. Half shafts are shared with the TR. And the heavy flywheel will cushion everything else. It would likely take at least half a second off the time. Perhaps more. Its why 911s always posted such good times.
