We all know the Headers on the F355 cars (along with a few other F-Cars), are major downfall and something the should be taken care of as soon as possible.

One thing we have noticed more and more at Fabspeed is primary catalytic converter failures. There is a quick solution to this - buying a new set of cats - but unfortunately this option is not ideal for everyone. You may want to keep your OEM cats so that you can pass CA visual smog inspection, or so you can keep the car appearing 100% stock.

FABSPEED MOTORSPORT offers re-coring services for your OEM Ferrari cats! We will take your OEM cats, remove the faulty core matrix - and fabricate one of our 200 Cell HJS Tri-Metallic cores in its place. This allows you to benefit from the performance gains of an aftermarket cat, but still appear as if your catalytic converter is OEM.

If this is something you may be interested in - please feel free to reach out, I would be happy to assist!

I had Fabspeed do mine over a year ago and they seem to be working great. Had a California smog check done 2 months ago and tested very clean.

That is a great option. I might have gone in this direction if it was offered at the time.

I have these, and like TrojanFan, I expect to clear CA smog sniff next year. Runs great so far, but I did use O2 spacers to be safe.

Are these cores normally in stock? I'll be doing an 'engine out' soon, and want to check the condition of the cats at that time. I'm not looking for the opportunity to spend an additional $2K.

Peter, Jim, Chen - thank you for the support!

The HJS cores are normally in stock, turn around time for fabrication is roughly 2 weeks.

Do you have spacers as well? 2.7 or 5.2? Any CELs?

Any audible difference? Check site for pricing?

    I assume normal aftermarket hi-flows don't fit?

usually any type of High flow aftermarket cat should not trigger any cel.
so O2 spacers should not be required on them neither I assume the re-cored.
since technically it's converting stock cat to a high flow.

O2 spacers would be required for test pipes on a 5.2 car for sure and still may not be bulletproof from cel.

2.7 cars are exempt from O2 spacers in all cases. high flows or test pipes.

Aftermarket cats are a visual inspection automatic Fail in California (unless it's a CARB certified model, which does not exist for Ferraris)

Hyper-Flows are known to throw CELs and require spacers. They probably have large cells. I put some on mine just for peace of mind, even though I had heard (TrojanFan?) the Fabspeed rebuilds don't throw CELs.

I have had absolutely no problems with my Fabspeed re-cored cats, no CEL's and a very clean smog test here in California. I've had them on the car for over a year now. As for a difference in sound over stock, I really can't say as my original cats were completely blown out so I was basically running a straight pipe there prior.

Agreed Chris! Focused for the owners that really want to utilize the factory appearance, but still ensure the car breathing to the best of its abilities.

    Jealous!

There will a slight increase in volume due to the increase in exhaust flow. The tone will be ever so slightly rawer as well. Both of these changes I'd argue most would find very pleasing and not even close to obnoxious, desirable if anything!

That has NOT been the case for myself or several friends with 5.2 Motronic 355s. Both aftermarket cats, as well as rebuilding services have all resulted in Check Engine lights for low catalyst efficiency. Spacers can eliminate the CE light, but that also eliminates the catalyst operation monitoring function of the secondary O2 sensor. Only the factory cats have avoided CE lights for us.

My factory cats re-cored by Fabspeed have had absolutely no issues. No check engine lights and I do not need to use any spacers. Just bolted them back in place. They look and function for all purposes like the factory cats but with supposedly better performance. I have gone through two years of smog checks in California with no issues what so ever.

Update: My re-cored cats also passed CA STAR smog. HCs were borderline at 25 mph, but CO and NOx passed by wide margins.
