    Is a cam variator with a date code of 1L ---Nov 2001 far enough after retrofit date to be safe? Also I can not find the page that showed the physical differences in the old and retrofit.---Jack

    hey jack, seems like you are moving along. do you have this PDF? When we spoke I was under the impression you did. There are some special Ferrari tools listed that attach to the aft of the head at the cam inspection areas that lock the cams so you can "theoretically" do the variators in situ. According to brian and ristybits it may be impossible though. Prob have nothing to lose by trying, and u can always remove the cam if you cant get em off (however I would confirm with the pros you will not cause any harm by trying). If you wish perhaps we can either make similar tools, or share the cost as I am planning to do my variators in 2 years when I do my next service.

    I have resigned myself to remove the cams, don't want to break or weaken a cam. the part number on one box is 190042 and the other is 190042 written with a black marker. the problem is I was not watching which part came out of which box. I will take the cams to my buddy with the clean room and we will figure a way to get them off. I want to get at least on of them off without destroying it to compare the old vs new. I made my tall creeper, I will take some pics when I clean up my pigpen shop---

    Love to see the tall creeper.

    Not sure what u meant w/ the variator part #'s?

    apparently this is the latest part number. It says nov 04 on the part but the date on the box is june 08. the creeper works well, working on cars for a living makes bad backs!!!
