In my 458 I just put it in race mode and all is well...why pay extra??

 

Even in Race, it still goes on/off, just at different RPM's.

I put in a switch and solved the problem.

 

Cant one just plug lines for the price of putting the car on a rack?

 

Yes, but one might find it nice to have the ability to close the valves coming home late and what not.

 

I went with a wired switch under the steering column. Simple to toggle, no key fob's to lose or run out of battery. I drive 95% in Race, but use the switch in my neighborhood, schools, police nearby, businesses, etc. I wouldn't want always on. Especially for $600 or whatever it costs.

 

I installed the Forza Componenti exhaust controller on my 430 Scud...it also works on the F12. It allows you to manually open the valves, so they are constantly open, by pressing button "A" on the included, key fob remote control. A press on the button "B" restores it to normal operation. Turning the car off, will also reset and restore normal operation. So upon starting you would need to press button "A" again to open the valves.

I highly recommend it, very well made, and (at least on the 430 Scud) very easy to install. Low cost was a bonus, only $375 delivered.

 

I have Capristo in mine. Works great.

 

I had the Capristo Switch on my 599 and it worked really well.

 

because in race mode the valves still don't open until 2500 rpm making you sound like a fool running through town with the valves opening and closing!

You know my Ferrari trained mechanic told me just the other day why the exhaust valves are open at idle but then close after you start driving. It is to reduce the heat in the cats while not moving. He said my open valved 575's pre-cats glowed cherry red after a short period of idling. A possible reason for their cracking. And to think all along, that besides waking the neighbours, I thought it was to impress the side walk crowd as you idled by at a low enough speed for them to detect and comprehend the badges on the fenders.

Not sure how closing the valves reduces heat in the cats. I would think it increases heat.

 

The valves are open at idle not closed. You are right, closing the valves will increase heat that is why they open them for idle.

 

Sorry folks, I mis-heard my mechanic. The valves are kept open at start-up and idle to clear the cats of un-burnt fuel and help reduce the heat build up in them. My pre-cats glowed cherry red after holding 4000rpm for a few minutes NOT after idling. He was pointing out that it is not just at WOT that the pre-cats are susceptible to over heating, they get very hot in normal driving.

 

Interesting my dealer told me it might void my warranty - its over Feb. 2016 so might just install it then
