Attracting a younger audience to NASCAR would probably be easier if they employed cars that are relevant which the younger generation may identify with rather than cheap stunts like having Square Drawers Fish Pants as a title sponsor. NASCAR are obviously working hard to bring young talent forward with a new generation of young stars on the up like Logano, Wallace, Elliot, etc. But, will that be enough? Kids today aren't into racing so much as perhaps we were. They're hip to technology and that means they'll gravitate to cars that are relevant. If you talk to kids that are into racing these days, they like drivers such as Tanner Faust, Ken Block and the Rally Cross series cars. I like to think that I have a normal attention span, unlike the kids of today which have the attention span of an average moth. You can't seriously expect kids to sit and watch a typical NASCAR race (live or on TV) for six to eight hours at a time and be stoked about the experience. It's one thing to go to a six, twelve or twenty-four hour race where spectators may go from point to point around a circuit and see the cars from many different vantage points but quite another to be locked into a grandstand seat for that amount of time to watch irrelevant cars go roundy-round. Kids can see through a cheap stunt and if having Square Bob Fish Pants as a sponsor was intended to lure kids into watching, it would really be interesting to know if it worked. Racing of all types walks a narrow line with regard to sponsorship and the promotional aspect. The best thing to do is to put a quality, relevant product on the track and people will turn out. While in NASCAR it's all about branding and licensing which is their strength, Indy Car seems to be flailing around spit-balling ideas to see what sticks rather than putting a world class product on the track. I sold a car to Joey Logano and while I was a fan of nascar in my teens.... I hadn't had any interest. Joey Logano was so damn nice and such a genuine person that it almost made me start watching nascar again. I don't have that kind of time so I check in on the results and quietly root for the kid. Seriously A+ gentleman. I was shocked since he is so young. I expected a bunch of arrogance but it never came. Just a super respectful nice, funny 24 year old guy.
Gene Haas Says Danica Patrick Is Under Consideration As Formula 1 Driver In 2017 - AutoSpies Auto News this is sad news...danica is possibly going to leave nascar to go race f1. a nascar frontrunner going to slay those European good ole boys. I for one would miss her!
Without trying hijack the thread............In over 19 years of failure, don't you think Indy Car is like Teflon? Nothing sticks and it ain't gonna. At least NASCAR has one thing going for it.....The majority of drivers come from the USA.
me too...but I suspect we are safe. this is funny stuff. has she figured out that she is a joke or does she still think she is a front runner?
and speaking of jokes...where are all the fchat members that were so convinced that she would set the nascar world afire with her stunning speed and race craft? can we did up the old threads and out those members?
Well, I suppose so but it would seem to be easy to appeal to xenophobes who think that the only auto makers that matter are Chevrorford and Oldsmobuick. Indy Car has top American drivers such as RHR, an Indy 500 and series champion but what do they do with him? Since the revolving door of PR lackeys in Indy Car know nothing about racing they're in a constant learning mode and therefore they feel that these drivers must be constantly introduced and re-introduced to the general public. The racing media just about creamed their jeans when Newgarden broke through to his first win and Rahal seems to be emerging as another contender at long last. It won't matter in the long term. In the real world, drivers should let their driving to the talking for them but these days, that's not enough. Thanks to the NASCAR influence, everyone has to know everything about the drivers to the point where NASCAR has become such a dog & pony show that it's painful to watch and embarrassing for the drivers. It shouldn't really matter where the drivers come from. But, the perception is that if a top American driver emerges with a name that is easy to pronounce then the American public will get behind him (or her) and attention will come to the series. I don't subscribe to that theory. BHW
"NASCAR drivers debate favourite taylor swift song". Seriously, front page stuff for NASCAR.com yeash. Going to the Xfinity racing in Charlotte, and looks like I won't try wading through the website to get any idea who's in the cars on Saturday. I made an effort to watch the 'Dega race, as I thought it might end up being one of my favourite Dega races ever, and it didn't disappoint. I loved the green finish. My line of thought, no Kyle Busch in a single Cup race all season, has sunk in, and its going to influence the cup grid and how they race the plate tracks until they can put it behind them and forget.
Thank you! I have been around here a long time. I guess a milestone is a milestone. I may celebrate with a nice cigar
time for the last race of today's "triple crown"....think I'll just tune in for the last 25 laps or so, in seven hours
What, you don't want to miss the 400 mile practice session with a few practice re-starts for when the real racing starts?
Its too late at night for me, I only watch it in person(if it all). The first bit was actually fun last year, until a legit phantom yellow had almost 30 cars taking the wave around probably 200 miles in of green flag racing.
It's been on periodically throughout the evening. But I've been doing housework and dinner since it started.
