308 GTB Vetroresina

Well, no.. Matter of fact is I was a Ferrari lover without knowing much about the car(s) in particular.. I wanted one since I understood the phenomenon "car", and could (that is, almost.. afford my first and so far only Ferrari back in 1995. Budget-wise it had to be a 308, and when looking at the car the seller explained to me this first series of 308 was made in fiberglass, which was completely new to me, go figure.. I almost chose a steel car, because that fiberglass stuff did seem rather strange and vunerable. He advised me to take the Vetro, in hindsight I don't know wether he wanted to get rid of that/my car in particular first, or the advice was well meant. Anyway, go try to buy a Vetro for some 27 K euro these days, so the advice worked out rather well..

Concerning details like the distributor shield: I only found out the ignition hás such a cap/protector last year when joining Fchat ! The car is as I bought it, exept for the big brakes, 16"Mistrals and adjustable shocks. I guess back in those days it was rather common to "skip" these kind of parts, as for instance toolkits, who bothered or knew about such items ? I for shure did not. Of course these days bits/pieces/accesoiries are regarded quite different. That's why I'm sorry I miss the shield, and toolroll. And I should not have "long-term" lended my spare to a Ferrari "friend" who after some time self-proclaimed the lended spare as "given ". (Thanks but no thanks, Erik !!)

I know the shield over the distributor, under the hood/in the engine room, don't know what (part) you mean that is fitted on the hood itself, if you/someone else has a picture of it please post it !

 

Here's a picture of the distributor cover for a Vetro. Fits in the engine cover under the cooling slats over the top of the dizzy.

Great story! You don't need to be a Ferrari expert to know that the 308 is one of the most gorgeous cars ever made!

 

Not sure of the price or s/n, however, looks like a nice example. 7.5 inch wheels and four outlet exhaust, common for Swiss delivered 308's.

If I may say so, when you look carefully at both of the rear pictures, you can see that there's no hole in the aprom for the outleft on the right part.
It is not original.

 

what do you mean?

 

I mean that when cars was delivered by the factory with the 4 exhaust outlet, the rear aprom was cut both side (it was not simply a "cut" in the fibre but a real different mold, the fibre follow the pipe behind the aprom).
On Euro car, the aprom was slightly different from US cars which had only one large cut.
So if that Swiss car left the factory with the Ansa option, then, it should not have just a single cut on the left but both side or a large US one.

you now have a nice challange car, that's a proper substitute!

 

A four outlet exhaust installed at the dealer prior to delivery would still have the single cut out. Even illustrated in Keith Bluemel's book, page 31.

reg the distributor shield. it was not on early cars as I learned from this very forum.
My car does not have any attachement points for it. However, as it probably make sense to have it, I ordered it from ferrariparts some time ago.
Instead if the aluminium one i thought I wqould recieve, they sent a grp part. ( in original packaging with the prancing horce)

 

Sure a dealer installation is not a like a factory option, even Keith Bluemel say in this image caption that it is a fitting afterthought. But the discussion was about all Swiss cars have four outlet from the factory like US cars (or AUS). The image from Classic driver car show a different point of view.

 

The comment made was Swiss delivered cars, not factory option.

My mistake, I was referring back to the discussion you had with Furanku about Swiss car with four tail pipes like US, AUS, NZ... and even some UK cars when fitted by the factory (thanks Aircon for your beauticul pictures, if the color of Aircon picture is original, it is Azzuro 106-A-32).

The picture of the car on sale on Classic Driver shows a later installation (I mean, not by the factory, even if it had been done before delivery), unlike American cars that had mount from the beginning (it was not an option).
The picture of the car on sale at the gallery Brummel shows two cutout in the apron, the exhaust is placed higher than US cars. This arrangement is typical of later European steel cars with Ansa option.
However, MikeRSR seemed to say that on this car, the exhaust was not original. I don't know any European fiberglass with certified original option to confirm.

How is your rear apron on your Swiss model ? This would be yet another point of view and help me to understand all the differences of that period.
