And the tornadoes....I called my 94 year old mother last Thursday...she was in the closet!

 

Same here - Amazed at how close it was to the bottom of the bridge supports. It was actually a couple of feet lower this afternoon when heading home, but still less than 6 feet under the structure.

Our equestrian event in Norman was reduced from 3 days to 2, then one, and the exodus yesterday afternoon/evening was impressive. The low spot on-property was under nearly 2 feet, from what one of the last people to leave told us last night. And then, there was the tornado, and a few subsequent "possibles".....
This morning was like grassy covering over pudding, driving the trailer down the hill (a few of those yesterday, too, from watching some of them).

Yikes. Radio was talking about Blanco floods. Prayers to your friends and loved ones...T

 

Thanks for the concern, I got hold of her last night & she is ok fine, a bit shaken up due to panic stricken neighbors waking her up at 3am to warn her. A flash flood filled up the back yard almost to back door, a small creek runs through the property overflowed & trapped the neighborhood in, three bridges are gone or have been damaged. She still has power but no cable or internet. I'm still in a bit of shock because the amount of damage thats been done, insane.

 

That's good news. I just saw a report that 12 are missing.



Travis is up to 54% capacity. Was 40% just a few days ago.

I was bouncing across the state this weekend... Saw lots of riverbeds overflowing between. San Angelo, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio... But this sight on Saturday morning made me pull over in wonderment. This dam, at the big bridge over the Llano River in the town of Llano, is usually spilling a few hundred gallons or maybe a few thousand gallons per minute. Saturday morning the water was flowing about a foot over the top of the dam, and the dam is at least a couple hundred yards wide. There was a mist that made the Llano look likea Niagra Falls starter kit.

That's incredible.

Houston's flooded this morning. Cypress, however, is not. And getting to work was awesome. The street I work on floodedat some point, several flooded out cars still in the middle of the road. And the fresh mulch laid out last Thursday was all washed into the street.

 

Travis is up over 7 feet since Sunday. I think that river is one of the big reasons because Buchanan has barely changed in the same period.

 

Been watching Travis as well. Had a lakehouse 10 houses from the Marble Falls / Travis dam in the family for years, and remember the day they had 19" of rain in 24 hours. Wiped out ours and all other docks on our constant level lake. Was watching Katie Couric on the national news describe it, when I noticed our brand new Bayliner boat with 1 hour on it going over the dam. That's a weird feeling. Then a crooked salvage company tried to get us to pay him $5k for pulling what was left of the boat out of the water. Colorado River Authority told us to tell them we owed them nothing. They weren't authorized to pick it up.

They should catch several more feet this week.

Welcome to sunny Texas!

Can't say I'm surprised. The soil in our backyard is saturated. Just a matter of time before sink holes open up. Hard to believe that just abt half a dozen years ago, the wife and I sat on our front porch, all excited abt a small pop-up t-storm, that delivered about a couple of dozen pathetic-sized rain drops.

Extended forecasts I have seen suggest the situation may not change anytime soon due to El Nino conditions. I can live with cooler temps (although I kind of prefer it be hot and dry), but hopefully the rainfall amounts will return to normal and/or shift to the Panhandle and west Texas where it is needed. Better yet, ship our current surplus to California…T

 

However, I seem to remember that in the 70's that every spring was weeks and weeks of rain and drizzle. Although, it does seem to have been really dry the past 20 years - hence the need for the sprinkler systems around the house(s). My neighbor (Plano) thinks the recent wetness has caused foundation problems and is having his house checked this week.

I'm a native Texan, and have lived in the I35 San Antonio to Dallas corridor since 1973 (with a brief excursion to College Station 78-82). Perhaps the memories are somewhat clouded, but I do seem to recall lots of drizzly springs. Perhaps I'm just senile!

We are currently looking for property/acreage in the Prosper/Celina area. All this water has some unexpected benefits - we can go look at property and tell if it is prone to flood issues.

The last comment I have on the surplus of water, is that I hope the cities/counties keep the water restrictions. We've learned to live with them, and the conservation will help when the rains finally quit, and the lake levels drop again.

Hi Sid... I'm a newcomer to Texas, & this is unlike anything I can recall in my 13 years here. Like you, my memory may be as cloudy as our skies. There's some pretty country up near Prosper. Some great back roads for driving as well; hope you find that perfect slice of No Tex...T

 

Years ago there was a distinct rain pattern. We would have about two weeks of rain in the spring, then again in the fall.

 

Maybe it's time to blame El Niño?

Sad turn of events, I got off the phone with my sister in Houston, she was friends with a family that was killed / reported missing in the Wimberley flood. They were in the process of evacuating with small children when the Blanco river swept away their cabin. Absolutely devastating.
