Sorry if a repost but I haven't seen it here. Just took it myself. At least they're trying.

There goes 30 minutes I'll never get back...but it had to be done.

Ironically, in a post a few years ago a made what I thought was the most sarcastic suggestion I could make. I suggested that F1 should install sprinklers and turn them on randomly to "spice" things up. I nearly sprayed some good 12 year old Scotch all over my keyboard when I saw that was one of the suggestions to be voted on.

Bernie himself has been tossing out the suggestion of sprinklers for random wet stages in the race for about 10 years!

A indoor kart track in New York did this for a 12hr, definitely made it exciting.

Very interesting take on this issue and movement from the drivers in F1.

Villeneuve: It’s dangerous for Formula 1 to ask fans for views

Villeneuve: It’s dangerous for Formula 1 to ask fans for views - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com

Former world champion Jacques Villeneuve believes it is "dangerous" to ask fans for their views on shaping the future of Formula 1.

Last week, AUTOSPORT, F1 Racing and Motorsport News unveiled a global fan survey, which closes today, with the Grand Prix Drivers' Association following suit.

But Villeneuve disagreed with the idea of getting fans involved and added that the sport should stop trying to attract more fans and instead focus on entertaining the current following.

"It is dangerous to ask the fans what they want, because a lot of modern F1 is what the fans wanted," the 1997 world champion told AUTOSPORT.

"Obviously it doesn't work. It is knowing what is required which is very intricate.

"You can't just come up with something in five seconds.

"We have a tonne more overtaking than we have ever had, but people are more bored than they ever were.

"What we are missing is a special Formula 1.

"Formula 1 should stop trying to get more fans and concentrate on the fans it already has."

When asked what he considered to be a "special Formula 1", the 11-*time F1 race winner replied: "What is special is a car that no-one can drive.

"It is a car that only 10 guys in the world can drive properly and 10 others can survive properly in it. Like it used to be.

"It is a car that is crazy fast. F1 should be the extremes of everything."

Feedback is the breakfast of champions. Only those who dont want to change and improve ignore their customers opinions.

Well are we the customers is the first real question. In Bernie's eyes, not so much. The sport has had the tools to 'connect' for years.....and......

It looked like a tool solely for grabbing free marketing info. I dropped it pretty quickly.

I would be in favor of making it more of a "show" during the weekend, but seperate that from the actual race itself. Here's a thought...

Make the actual cars and race as JV suggested, smoking fast and hard to handle

Include some more gimicky things over the course of the weekend. One idea I've tossed out before that I think would be really cool is a "best driver" award, have each car manufacturer supply a car that each driver gets two laps in to post their best time, that would actually allow the minnow drivers to compete and show their moxy. Can you imagine ferrari showing up with the 458 Speciale and having all 20 drivers post times? Or a McClaren? It also brings the benefit of having some additional cross over marketing into their brands, which is supposedly why they're in it anyway.

Keep the racing pure and pollute the weekend with some other fun that fans can enjoy.

+1 JV is spot on for a couple things. In the past they did the BMW M1 racing before the GP's. Great fun. There is alot that can be done with small efforts to connect and entertain.

+1 on the Procar idea. Maybe Mercedes can provide baby Benzes again for past and present F1 drivers for some Friday thrashing sessions. Recall Senna beating everyone in a 190e.

The Aussie GP is non stop on track activities. I doubt anyone but the locals get to see it, though.

    Oh, I hope not.

In that they emailed me the survey I don't think that they were looking for an address they already have.
