who is to say that Girl Scout cookie wont be not laden with explosive?
In some countries they are remote detonating young girls.
but we are digressing too far.
Bottom line is I would be very suspicious to see someone at my door asking question about my cars who I have never heard from or seen before. Granted, nowaday you can be scouted by private drones but these you can shoot from the sky and not face the music.
As far as phone calls, it would not last long, well who ever commits private info to a total stranger?
Other avenues are right. Car shows, forums like these etc.. there are plenty of other very apporpriate public avenues that promotes the initial contact for a follow up and my experience is that most people asking private questions such as selling or such have always come from these venues.
that said I do open the door to strangers but they always seem to be from some kinds of religious groups... and they are trespassing..

These are not teenie bopper cars and that approach should not apply. 10 out of 10 times I bet a Countach owner would say no. Some of you people have grand stories but they are about other cars.

A Countach owner knows where, who, how, and when he is going to sell his car. Not by some bozo knocking on the door or ring their personal home phone...... and then a light bulb and a revelation, realization goes off in the owners head.......YES, god YES, that would be a fantastic idea that I needed to do but would never have given it a thought.
YES!, you have convinced me, please come in, walk across my house and by my family, come into my garage, stranger. Would you like to wake me up to selling these other cars? Wow, you are they buyer that saved my life.....whew.
    How does it go....roflmao.

Personally, if approached by phone or my doorbell, I simple say "what makes you think I have a Countach?"
Many people have come up to me and said "I hear you have Countach" I have always said "not me".

    Peter,

You have done a beautiful job of illustrating the ridiculousness of knocking on a stranger's door to try & buy their Countach, in today's world!

    LMFAO!!

Your story is especially meaningful because - it comes from a Countach owner.

With your kind permission, I'd like to use this as example number 37 in the new book I am working on entitled: "How Not To Buy A Motorcar"

    LOL... :D

Knock knock... Hi Miss, I heard you're going through a bitter divorce and will sell me that old car in the garage for $100. Actually young pizza boy, my soon to be moron of an ex husband says it needs a throw-out or bearing or something. I don't know what the bearing part is so I was just going to throw it out. He's out of town with his girlfriend so just take it, it's yours.

    It's 1 a.m., couldn't resist...

The interesting thing is, we are not mentioning if our wives or kids answer that door or phone.
    Yeah, we can move on.

I have a question.... The ad representing the Countach being sold by Hyman Classics said that an Anniversary Countach with similar miles just sold for $451,000 at RM Auctions in May 2015.
Could anyone provide a link or details. Thanks

That Countach sold for $451,000 plus buyers premium. It didn't even have a wing.

Come on now, let's have all of the haters and bashers come out of the wood work for a proper tar and feathering.

RM list their final sales price(451$) incl premium,IOW all inn, the 467$ all inn Arizona car referred to by Ttforcefed is an 88 qv,again all in ,both of these cars where extremely low miles cars, perhaps not representing an average car,one question comes to mind, totl poduction QV, verus Annis are very(650) close, why is 90 % of aii cars on the market, world wide ,Anni cars? I get they where all produced in a 2 year period, versus 4 in the QV s case, where they initially bought for a different reason, more of a financial than
    emotional/ passionate one? Just curious.

The Anni that sold at Mecum in January 2015 with 6500 miles went for $378,000 all in. This Anni sold for $451,000 all in at Auction. I am wondering if that is a better venue for these cars since there are a few examples at $400,000 that have been on the market for a while. I am specifically refering to the one at Exotic Motor Cars.
