This years concorso was exceptional. A worldclass experience. Happy reading. Concorso d?eleganza Villa D?Este 2015-Part II: The Day Tour » Le Monde Edmond
Thanks for posting the link. Looks like a very chic event, albeit a bit small compared to other concourse events. Based on info that I found on their website, ticket prices were incredibly low. As an example, Pebble Beach concourse last year was $275 per ticket but yet for this event, 8 euro on Sat and 15 euros for Sun, did I read this correctly from their website?
I am not sure you did. Its a highly private and exclusive event and I think you can only attend by invitation. I highly doubt it is only 8...
That's what I'm thinking. Here is where I got the ticket prices: Tickets | Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este
If you look carefully this is Villa Erba and not Villa d'Este. They are completely different. At Villa d'Este 7 will not even get you a capuccino...... ;(
Hi, I think I paid €14 for an expresso. But the spumante della casa wasn't too bad and at €75,- per bottle they were nice enough to throw in some olives and almonds as well. But that was two years ago, prices may have changed. Some years €400,- or €500,- may have given you access and lunch on Saturday, but not always. This year you could get in free to Villa Erba on Sunday if you had registered for Saturday's auction with RM. I'm cheap, I know. Cheers, Pekka T. Fin.
You understood is well. Villa d'Este is really mostly a private event and the next day the public get to see the cars which is great idea. The public also gets the same programme (in terms of kidston explaining each car) and the cars all drive past the public.
I've been to villa d'este, but not erba. just wondering if the same cars move over there or the owners pack up and go home? do the organizers require that the cars participate in both shows? i plan on attending next year.
Yes Ed, the same cars move over there on Sunday for the public. I think the owners require the cars to participate in both shows. Come next year- you will not regret it.
500 for Saturday without lunch, lunch was a 100 or so option IIRC. Still cheaper than my meal at Louis XV the next day.. Wonderful event however, absolutely loved it. As far as comparisons, for me, it was reminiscent of Quail that ties into Pebble week in the states. Smaller, more exclusive, more expensive, and with an auction tied into it.
The highlight for me was seeing the cars move from one to the other on Sunday morning. Between about 8-9am I saw almost all cars on the move and smelled the fumes! Was amazing to see and hear these cars being driven as some gave the cars some gas. Lamborghini Asterion (?) got sideways out the gate of Villa d'Este and SCG, Dino and McLaren were the best for me.
Yes that is great! In the early morning all cars, so also the prototypes etc drive on the open road from Villa d'Este to villa Erba. The concours at Villa Erba on sunday is almost just as good as Villa d'Este on saturday. Except some people really like to go to exclusive/expensive events and think they are more fun because of that. Villa Erba is still only 14/15 euro, so incredible value for money. If you go early, you can still take pictures of the cars without other people around them. It is one of the best places in the world and with very high quality cars.
I don't quite agree with you. Villa d'este is ofcourse better. The setting is nicer, the people are extremely elegant, the food is amazing- and since this concorso is not just about cars but all that goes around it, people, food, scenary owners - you cannot compare the two. On sunday you have a bunch of curious people who have nothing else to do but stare and more annoyingly touch cars all the time. Its completely different. Don't get me wrong. Sunday is nice too. I especially think the idea is nice to show and have the same programme for the public the next day. Its how knowledge is passed on. There are some true enthusiasts on Sunday too. But not many. Saturday is not better because it ismore expensive it is better because of the setting, the limited amount of people and because 90% of people are either collectors, restoration experts, journalists or connoisseurs. Having said that i would encourage all people to attend Sunday if they cannot go on Saturday for whatever reason.....
