Battery tender install question

just hook it up and walk away... no need for a battery kill switch

 

Battery tender is unrelated to kill switch. In fact, most use battery tender and never turn off the kill switch. So, you should be fine.

Could be the kill switch failed and was removed instead of replaced.

The Tender Company did highly recommend that a power surge suppressor strip be used to protect the Battery Tender. I had a Tender get toasted on a unprotected outlet when lightning struck nearby!!!

 

Shutting off the battery isn't good, it resets the ECUs and the car has to relearn it's maps. I figured the best way to install a tender wasn't to install one at all, meaning just put the tender lead into the cig lighter in the middle console with an available adaptor.

 

Isn't there a risk of frying stuff doing a retrograde charge. Havnt heard of the cig lighter adaptor. I assume it's the same as installing a behind the seat connection.

Yes, I leave mine plugged in all the time. However not all "Battery Tenders" are created equal.

I use the "Battery Tender Plus" by Deltran. Actually about 10 of them. It charges the battery and then shuts off when the proper voltage is reached. Some of the wall transformer models just keep charging at a low rate which can over charge the battery. Ferrari supplied C-Tec brand with the Scuderia. The first one was the small one and when it failed they supplied the next size up. All is good for the last 6 years on that one.

You can wire it directly to the battery and no need to shut off the Master switch. Happy Motoring

 

I am going to hook up a battery tender on my 360. Do most of you go to the battery or under the boot?

 

I always go right to the battery. Cars or motorcycles.

 

Through my past experience, you will have a battery issue once it goes dead. I have learned my lessons. I tried kill switch, then you need to input radio code, the alarm will go off every minute while driving. Then you will have to lock the car, unlock it to reset the mode.

I just unbolted the passenger side panel, hook it with battery tender without installing it completely as I used to do with other cars. If I do not plan to drive it for more than 3 days, I just hook up the battery tender like a jumper cable. It will show the red light for a while then stay in green... You will then never face battery issues.

 

Permanently install the pigtail plug adapter that comes with a battery tender like the Battery Tender Plus either to your battery or to the terminals in the panel behind the drivers seat. Then you can just quickly connect and disconnect the Battery Tender without having to open up any access panels.

 

This is what the guys over at Penske-Wynn did for me. No problems whatsoevr since (3 years). I disconnect if the wind is howling or the thunder is lightening, just in case of an outage or a surge.

 

No problem for me - The Ctek trickle charger shows max amps of 4.3.
