I installed a GM Siren and it works perfectly, chirps and red light
Hi Glen, Big fan of your exhaust systems- hope to be an owner soon! Does your siren sound off when the alarm is activated?! Mine doesn't.
Most of the things I do to my Ferrari's are also for my satisfaction not cost. Driving them is awesome but it is almost as satisfying to fix them. thanks for taking the time to write it up
I think the GM replacement is just as simple, no? $369+ frieght for the F unit on Ricambi now, $85 including freight for the GM Bosch unit - Genuine ALARM (15213135) for Your GM Vehicle
GM unit is just as simple. I've been using it in mine for 4 years. Some differences with the alarm reported.. but I don't care. Alarm does squat besides annoy people. If you want protection, get a GPS locator Also try used GM parts suppliers. I bought my GM alarm on ebay for 20 bucks! Of course.. I was the one that discovered it.
I got tired of the red light, so I just bought a new siren from Ricambi and threw it in. No more red light. It's not worth mucking around with IMO Mind you, I did try the "connect this 9 volt battery in trick", but that was an epic fail!
Hi Wong, Sorry for the late reply. Last time I checked it did go off when I triggered it I Look forward to hearing from you when you are ready Regards Glenn
Thanks for all the useful information guys - when my red light came on I went straight to this forum and followed the advice not to wait too long before taking action, so I went straight out removed the siren, I had to use the wife's hair-dryer to soften the glue on the membrane, unfortunately I don't live in sunny California, before I could ease it enough to start the cutting, it was useful to have a helping hand so that I managed not to cut myself. The 2 Varta batteries had just started to leak, but had not caused any damage, apart from some marking of the PCB, which cleaned up and was sealed with PCB lacquer. I went for the remote battery option and sourced the identical Varta battery, but in a 6 cell configuration - I like to keep things original where I can. All works fine, no red light and siren sounds - brilliant - that's saved me £260 ($390) and it's easy to change the battery as it's now under the cover plate for the master cylinder. Once again many thanks to Ray Johns
Just got done replacing mine with the GM replacement part # 15213135. My siren has never worked since I bought my car. Followed the walk thrus, plugged this new GM one in, no more red light. Chirping works great. Seems like new again! My car is a 2004 360 Spider, US F1. Hope this helps everyone else and save yourself $400 bucks.
Just a little follow up also. I opened up my old siren to see if it was salvageable. Not so much! In the garbage it goes! Fried Board Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yea it was in bad shape. Thanks also Glenn for the cupholder. Got it installed last week. Looks great.. Chris
Having trouble finding the correct 9v terminal connector .. Will this work? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=301506311561&globalID=EBAY-US They are 8 inches long, so I if need to be longer I will solder two together to make it long enough .. I'm worried about diode or resistor built in as stated above ^ and will not charge the v9 battery.. Also The wire looks correct 22awg? Or can anyone refer a link for the correct 9v connector?? Thx in advance
Yup!! Decide to go RadioShack and everything worked!! Red Light gone and all functions work on the alarm!! Big thx to the OP + everyone else for this awesome thread!! Woo woo cheers!
I thought this too.. Found one only 5 miles away they apparently now general wireless operations dba as RadioShack.. Going for a comeback!
One thought. Why fix it? Does it matter if the light goes off or stays on? My car runs perfectly regardless of the light not working.
I totally agree! Just got bored one day and decided to give it a try. I think it's the idea of being proactive. If you attack the issue early you can potentially save yourself a few bucks down the line. That's if you even care about this insignificant issue. Doesn't really need to be fixed IMO.. Tried fixing it yesterday but the red light still goes on under 2 conditions.. (when started and has recently been driven.) BUT after stitting for a while (hr or two), it it all seems to work again from initial start up ( with no red light). But this just after 2 days of analysis.. so who knows what it will do later on lol... I'll live with it.. the red light reminds me to slow down when driving too fast lol and I don't need the Chirps.. Everything else works 100% fine like u said so why bother??? End of the day problem can be fixed with a GM module for 70-80 bucks
Update: (if anyone still cares) went back and cleaned the circuit board more thoroughly with Q-tips/rubbing alcohol. Inside out and dried with low heat hair dryer...after multiple drives, everything seems good to go... at cold, warm or hot! The alarm, lock, unlock, siren, chirps all work like it should! And no more red light.. More important than the battery is cleaning that board like brand new again... given your board is not already toast.. Simple.. But I overlooked it..Cheers
