Yes, I wonder how many of the doubters would give their right arm to have an F40 in the garage.

I'm going to say that GT3's sounds great and that 911's in general have one of the sweetest and most recognizable sounds in the industry.

The F40 is an iconic Fcar. Hard to drive compared to a 458. Massive turbo lag, no abs. Sits very low to the ground...scraping is a problem with speed bumps, dips many driveways, etc.

They are a real drvers car and takes tons of skill to master and drive well. 458 is a piece of cake by comparison. And much more practical. And faster.

So you need to think about what you really want if you want an F40 to drive. Otherwise you can make it a garage/show queen and hope the prices continue to rise.

Any self respecting car enthusiast wants one in their garage. Along with a 288 GTO, Porsche 959 and a McLaren F1.

    At least I would. 😝

F40 doesn't sound really good. It's just loud because basically it is a straight pipe without Cat. If they cannot make F1 cars sound good, forget about any other car.

I have similar video of my 458 experience at a driving school taken from an iPhone and It sounds very similar. I think the whole NA sound thing is going to be for the most part dispelled when the 488 is released. Sure it may sound a little different but I suspect the performance improvements will greatly outweigh this. As a current 458 owner I wish this wasn't the case but I'm just being realistic.

.... except I don't think that was filmed with an iPhone.

    thx for the vid.

It seems this car has a lot of power on the rear axle, bravo Ferrari!
Sound is more than ok, definitely not a deal breaker.

I think the sound isnt bad. Of course its not like the N/A v8 sound but the sound wouldnt stop me from buying the car. You can still hear a bit of Ferrari DNA in the sound.

That, of course, is a prototype of some description so may, or may not, be representative of the final car.

The 488 does NOT sound like an F40.

It sounds like a McLaren 12c.

Sound aside, those telling us for sure that the 488 can't be a proper driver's car because it's a turbo must be unaware of the existence of the F40.

Apples and oranges. The two cars have basically nothing in common.

You might was well say the Mclaren 12c has more in common with the 488. At least they both used Carbon fiber for a chassis. Ferrari is still 5 years away from it which is why the spider has extra weight and cowl shaking-- for $320 grand.

Oh, yes, that's absolutely true and I'm not comparing the cars. But just to say that it's not a certainty that being turbo will mean that the 488 is a duffer as a driver's car.

+1. To drive a 458 is to love it. I would take over any of the so-called performance cars out there. And if someone hasn't driven it no need to comment because they really don't know what those who have are talking about.

I tend to agree with you. And somebody will make an aftermarket exhaust that is desirable.

As someone mentioned earlier, you can thank the emissions regs for the lack of manufacture sound. But, a tuner might be able to make it sound like that with the right exhaust.

IMO, this car looks 100% like a 458, plus a side vent, which is BEAUTIFUL.
But it sounds like a louder 911 Turbo, which is LAME.

It's totally different between building a turbocharged engine and adding turbocharger to NA engine. Ferrari cannot make stuff like that twin turbo Scud, because that engine won't be reliable. I think that twin turbo Scud won't stand for one all-out lap in Nurburgring.

It sounds almost like the f40. Maybe with a tuned exhaust you might be able to have a different sound.
