I'm not saying there aren't exceptions. My point is that Japan as a culture ties quality of work to self worth. As a result, they put more time into r&d to fix the problems before they get to the consumer. The same used to be true of this country also.

Take enough of them apart and your point comes across even stronger. They are pretty crumby cars when compaired to a 40k Mercedes. Exciting cars for sure, but they are a crappy product over all.

I still have a 91 NSX after many years. Perhaps my favorite real world car. Better than the 348 at the time and still better now.
Have had Ferraris and currently own a Boxer.
Both cars are iconic but the NSX was revolutionary to boot. Yes the NSX should have had a V-8 from the get go even Senna said as much.
But the Japanese execs at the time "knew better than the world". Idiots.
The cure is a supercharger or turbo.

When I hear the argument about the car lacking soul I just roll my eyes. An undefinable therefore unwinnable argument. Uninformed snobs.

    You are 100% correct.
Maybe I have never owned a car, just a bicycle with those extra wheels on the side of the rear wheel!
    Who knows?

This has been a very enjoyable thread. I'm still getting to know my '14 F12, my first Ferrari. No problems yet. I've owned a Lambo G, a Viper and a few other performance cars. They appeal to me on an emotional level, not a practical level. I will live with shortcomings in my weekend cars because I use them for entertainment. Of all that I've owned, the F rings my bells the loudest. I tell my wife I will always, always LOVE her. But there may be some brief times when I don't particularly LIKE her. Will be the same with my F12. Hell, I would have paid the price for it even if it didn't move, if it just started up and revved. That sound is more effective than any other antidepressant I've ever heard of.

    Stay away from Lotuschat then...

Look at it this way: they look good, sound good, feel good, are fast... if they didn´t have those issues they would be perfect. And perfection is impossible.

    P.S: I like Lotus too.

    Haha awesome post.

I began my journey in 2004 with a Ferrari 355. I knew nothing of the brand other than it was beautiful and awesome sounding with a fantastic racing heritage.

I quickly began to feel the below !

But then i learned to embrace the below !

The factory totally changed for 458+ era, the 360 and 355 cannot be compared it apples and oranges.

It does seem the 360 was better than the 355 on those type of issues (valve guides, headers, engine out service) and the 458 another step forward (wet clutch, more comfort available without giving up rawness on demand).

I'm pretty impressed with the 458 as a modern car without a lot of sacrifices for the marquee. Now if only the owners and their ridiculous demands for low mileage in any used car would move into the modern age.

Doug that will never happen and the factory + dealers like it like that. They can sell the same client multiple models of the same car.

As to the sticky buttons- yeah, they can get on you- so get the fixed. It's annoying but its part of the deal.

I just bought my first Ferrari a few days ago. 2006 F430. Wasn't looking to buy one - just sort of happened. A friend was selling it and I have always wanted one.
I love it. Only car I have liked this much is my 1967 camaro (nothing special, just like an old pair of jeans - comfortable). With both of these very different cars there is one commonality - I love them both because I love to drive them and accept their flaws. The 67 sort of makes me smell like gasoline and doesn't exactly handle like a ferrari. Don't care. Love driving it.
Same with the 430. Amazing car. Insane sound. Love just starting it up. I may never sell it. It makes me giggle when a Tesla drives by - really??? And most of my cars have been BMWs. Like BMWs. Just down have the love affair that you have with these very imperfect cars IMO. Rant over
