Same comment-I don't believe it is the 'M' at all. In fact the more I look at the pics in detail, given what I know of the upcoming 'GTO/VS/whatever' I am convinced this is one of those mules.
You are certainly right. I too am convinced. In fact, you can even spot some of the design elements we've been discussing privately.
There is zero chance that Maranello will do a GTO model based on the F12. The F12 section thread advocates of an F12 "GTO" must be smoking crack and have little to no comprehension of the "GTO" moniker and when that specific nomenclature is employed by the factory. A cursory review of the 599 GTO owners literature makes clear that Ferrari's basis for the GTO moniker in the 599 is the road homologation of the 599XX model. Since there is no F12XX there can NOT be a GTO model based on the F12. This is the factories philosophy not mine. We can all speculate when the factory will do another GTO model and it could be 10 years or 20 years or who knows. We also can't assume that the next GTO model will be a front engined V12. Based on the 288 being a mid-engined TT V8 isn't it possible that the factory could win Lemans (or whatever) with a 488 (or whatever) and then homologate a few hundred cars based on a 488 (or whatever) ? I get that this is a public forum and I know I have to deal with countless morons, but its amazing that people who can afford a GTO have little to no comprehension of Ferrari nomenclature. That being said I do believe that whatever name the factory gives to the F12 "special" (ie. whether its an F12M, F12 Speciale, F12 Stradale, etc.) it will certainly be an amazing and spectacular automobile. That is an absolute certainty !
Thats why i hope i heard wrong, they pretty much telling people that the next gto will have 800 hp。
My reliable sources have told me that your reliable sources might not be as reliable as you may reliably believe. One thing is certain: it's going to be a fast horsey
There would have to be a racing or track version of the f12 to base the GTO on for it to make any sense or it would lose whatever tenuous (ie 599gto-599xx) link it had to racing and be a GTO in name only.
What I don't get is why owners or anyone cares so much what the car is called... LaFerrari has one of the dumbest names a car has ever gotten yet it trades at 2x it's MSRP. 599 Aperta has no special name, infact the name was repeated for the 458 model and its prices are stronger than ever. When it comes to Ferraris, the only thing that matters is how limited their production numbers are (racing pedigree became irrelevant a long time ago). IMHO, whatever name the new F12 has it will have 0 effect on the price of the GTO (see 512M, 550 Barchetta and 575 SA prices if proof is needed).
The models you listed had enough differences between them to appear as standalone models. An F12 GTO will be a direct successor to the 599 GTO. It will affect the demand on the 599, but how much and for how long will be determined over time. The 458 Speciale Aperta and 599 Aperta do share a portion of a name, but nothing else. There is no cannibalism between them.
The only way it could distantly claim GTO status is as it uses basically the same NA engine as the FXXK as well as some of the unusual suspension and steering. And it might, maybe? But I doubt it. Forgot to mention in response to the question, yes it will have approx 800hp
I wouldn't put much weight behind that seeing as a 599 GTO is a road homologation for a car that doesn't need homologation. The idea of homologation only exists as far as it being required for certain categories of racing. If a car doesn't compete in such races, then it's road version isn't a homologation IMO. The 599 GTO is as much a GTO as the LF. The logic behind their cars names is $$$.
That's an inaccurate and a bit of a contradictory analysis......you should study your Ferrari history with particular regard to their idea of homologation and how they have used it. Your conclusion on the other hand is spot on.....but then again that is the logic behind car names by all manufacturers. That is the automotive industry's business model!
I don't place any weight in your opinion as you clearly have not read any of the owners literature on the 599 GTO. Why denigrate the 599 GTO ? There have been a little over 900 GTO's made in total over the last 53 years. To say that your more knowledgeable than the factory is downright insulting to all GTO owners. Furthermore, it is intellectually inconsistent to state that the LF is the same as the 599 GTO and could just as easily bear the moniker. The GTO was based on the 599 XX and the LF was based on nothing but a clean slate of paper. Had the LF been built after the FXXK and IF it was based on the FXXK then you'd have a valid argument.
I reckon it would be great to have something more hardcore than a hgte version on every v12 2 seater from now on. The Maranello could have used a street offering like this.
not to insult anyone I can't help but think the Ferrari of yesterday is changing there is a new head at the helm and Ferrari is soon to become an independent co and then go public .. so with that in mind seems it would be likely that Ferrari will do what is best for Ferrari if calling a new model GTO will make them more money in the short term I do not see why they would not do that .. On the other hand they could have something bigger coming before long that they may hold that name for.. Just a thought ... either way I do not think it will hurt the 599GTO anymore then the 599GTO hurt the 288GTO etc.... If i had a 599GTO i wouldn't sweat what the F12 new car is called doesn't make your car anything less...it is still a great car and when ROMO gets tired of buying them all I just might get one.
