Mark, I don't know what a "proper camera " would do any better. That is a lovely photo. Thanks.

It was just an iPhone shot.... I normally have very capable camera set up but I don't always drag it along. Unfortunately you just never know when a good opportunity will present itself.

Here is one of my favorites that I took about ten years ago while in the gulf. Every evening at sunset I would walk out and adjust my settings and wait to see if an opportunity would come during the five minutes or so when the angle of the sun was just about right with my position and the climb out path.

Another pic that the iPhone would never get.... A VC-10 and a couple of Tornados making a high speed pass at dusk with just a sliver of moon in the background. It was a remembrance event for the Battle of Britain and was right before the VC-10 was retired if memory serves.

Very nice, a late model KC-135. Why is the drogue dispensed or trailing?

No idea.... That's just the way they seem to be when they where set up for drogue. It always reminded me of the little tail hanging off the back of a big grey elephant.

I love seeing the "clouds" form in the front of the engine on humid days... Looks funny when spotting at LAX on a crystal clear day to see the fog building as the engines spool up....

That sequence is extremely interesting not only to see the condensation forming in the inlet but to see the finite vortexes flowing over the wing from the nacelle strakes. They are doing exactly what they were designed to do to keep the stalled air out of the strut / wing juncture. Also the evenly distributed mist over the wing when the climb started . A living wind tunnel. Decrease in pressure= a decrease in temp. Man, I make up good sounding stuff!

I watched the video again this morning and also noticed the change in the flow of rain on the window. As the wing started to produce lift, the flow of the rain water went from a random horizontal direction to an angle that matched the airflow over the wing. Shows how far away from the wing that the air is affected.
