Just got my new 308 home and was trying to operate the radio tonight. It is a BLAUPUNKT. The lights come on and every thing seems normal, except NO sound, not even static. Green light lights up when it locks on to station. etc: Before I take it out of the dash does anyone have any experience with this model and can tell if I just am missing something. The fixed station tuning buttons on the bottom do not seem to do anything. Antenna goes up and seems to be connected. there is no tape in the cassette. Thanks Dennis

Have you turned on what looks to be a secondary unit underneath the A/C vents?

There does not seem to be a switch on the lower unit owners Manual does not indicate that it has to be turned on

Ok...I will step out on a limb here...your car probably has front speakers only. A stereo unit has Left, Right, Front and Back sound mixture controls...find them and wiggle back and forth...your radio will come on... :)

It may be a passive device of some sort (so it would not need to be turned on) but, it does have a knob. And, my guess is that it is for fade/balance control. So, I would try turning it back and forth as well along the same logic as Tinterow has suggested.

My 308 has an original Blaupunkt cassette deck in it as well. But, the unit is an "Aspen" model, and it does not have that separate unit below as yours does.

Your unit looks older and may have a tape-to-radio toggle button on it somewhere ---- which has to be switched back to "radio" mode manually even if there is no tape in. So, you might try that as well.

Also, perhaps make sure that both the deck and the secondary device are switched to the same band (AM1, AM2, FM1, FM2, etc.) --- it is weird that they both have the same set of switches for band select, but I would guess that means that they have to be synched to the same band then ?

I believe that secondary unit is a remote for the primary unit. Why someone would mount it so close to the other is odd.

By the way, why do you need a radio with the soundtrack that is emitting behind you?

    It's a 1977 Blaupunkt "Bamberg" with station-button-option and recording-option and Microphone for recording. (see picture of a 1978 Porsche-Model).
Often there is a problem when the red "record"-button is pressed too hard and stays in "pressed/record" position. Try to connect it to power, put in a cassette and press another button (rev or ffd).

btw. The sound of this Radio is horrible ! But it's original for your 308 and that's the reason, why you need it - in working condition.

    Markus,

I don't think any sound system was 'original' to the 308.

    Meaning factory installed.

    Can anyone confirm?

IIRC, all radios in the US were dealer installed items.

Yes, some folks un-install them to take them back to the unmodified state.

I have had my car nine years and in spite of a supposed simple antenna fix never bothered with the radio.

2281GT. I think you are correct about the cassette button being stuck. The left red button feels like it has not released. I will try to find someone that still owns a cassette and borrow. I only need it working for show as the cams exhaust will always sound better!
