    Anyone help with this....F355....M2.7

Had my RH headlamp pod motor renovated by top specialist in the UK
Did this because it was raising the pod but not lowering

After the rebuild...new diodes, etc....the motor when on the work bench works just fine...the spindle rotating clockwise and then counterclockwise....but...

When attached to the pod on the car the headlamp pod opens just fine but then drops by maybe 2cm...when lights turned off she returns to the closed position.

Any ideas why the pod drops when open?
Could it be the motor or the physical connections between the motor and the pod?

Car is in the shop right now ....heard about this via a telephone call.

I am basing this reply on the 348 headlamps mechanics and wiring, assuming 355 ones are similar. The test clockwise/counterclockwise was irrelevant as the motor always turns in one direction during the pod up and down operations (like a windscreen wiper motor).

There are two possible reasons: 1. The Control Arm (part below numbers 22 13 14 on the diagram) incorrectly engaged with the motor shaft; 2. Bad or wrong motor relay (or wiring to it).

To diagnose which one it is, you need to carefully observe the pod movement after it reaches the top and until it stops 2cm down. If during this part of the movement the pod gradually slows down and stops, it is the relay (or wiring). If the pod, during the 2cm over, moves at the same speed as before it and stops abruptly, then it is the mentioned arm adjustment.

The headlamp motor relay has two functions: When on, it drives the motor; When off, it applies "electric brake" to the motor. Motor braking is achieved by shorting its positive and negative wires. Otherwise, the motor would continue turning (by inertia) for a while after it's been switched off and "overshoot the target". I suggest you check the relay first - insert the relay from the headlamp that works well.
