    I don't like the design, it looks like a big 3 series, and I was expecting something better. It's not ugly, but not groundbreaking...externally.

    The tech stuff is cool.

    I can't believe - but am glad - that BMW still makes a 6 litre V12.

    Keeps getting uglier. I think the 3/4-series makes the headlight-grill connection work, but not the 7-series. That grill is too big for that and makes it look worse. The rear has been ugly for quite a while now.

    Not ugly, just utterly indistinctive. If it weren't for the grille and badges, I wouldn't even know I was looking at a BMW.

    Is it just that I'm getting old, or was the E38 truly the last attractive 7-series?

    Nope. It was, last one we owned. E38 750iL Sport. V12, inlaid wood on doors, parallel spokes, and dual pane glass. Awesome car. Still has presence.

    It was gorgeous, but I am a fan of the latest one (before the one being discussed in the OP) too. I think it looks very good. Not so stately and appealing to the older demographic like the S class and Jaguar XJ, but also not too angle-y and homogenic like the A8.

    I get some comfort from the fact that this car is, externally speaking, more of a facelift than an actual new model. It doesn't seem to be introducing a new design language, which is what the new 7 usually does for BMW's range. I hope I'm right in saying this, or we will get some very Hyundai-ish BMWs in the next few years.

    God I hate that chrome strip on the rear....

    Seems it's a new trend. The Porsche caymen has the same thing.

    I just hope this new one does not have the issues these things are knowen for when new. Have a customer with a 14 x5, he has been waiting to have his timing chain replaced for 3 months, dealer back log.

    Missed opportunity, gutless new management that is afraid to bring any of the great concepts shown lately.
    Same cowards that cancelled 9 Series, M8 and any thought of M7.
    Great car that looks so bland it will be overlooked by most shopping in the segment.

    It its day the first editions of the 7 series were jaw dropping with the E38 being the better looker. Had one and sold it when the maintenance became frightful. But man what a beauty in its day.

    Critics of the new 7, I think it's safe to say, are mainly enthusiasts who are not drawn to large, stately, luxury cars that appeal to an older demographic. I do like the looks of the new 7, although I don't like it enough to buy one since big cars are not of interest to me.

    I agree that the 1995-2001 7-series (E38) was one of their best designs ever, especially when equipped with the dual parallel spoke wheels.
