2015 24 Hours of Le Mans

Sucks for Nissan but their car was losing all its time in the corners; hate to think that the overall design underestimated the cornering needs at Le Mans. Hope they can get through the 24hr without any more hiccups.

 

Looks like the accident was confirmed to have been caused by a stuck throttle. Only one factory Corvette for the race.. sad!

 

There is a reason the wheel is round and not oval or square and it is because it works best. Nissan should not have tried to reinvent the wheel on its LMP1 car

 

Seems silly to invest the no doubt considerable sum only to find out that the concept won't work on its' first outing, it being THE event of the year.

What is the average age of a Le Mans driver? How many drivers are in their 40s and 50s?

There's so much tarmac run-off on courses these days that drivers can short-cut corners for faster lines or using the extra room for passing. If you have your car two wheels on the curb and two wheels off on the tarmac "run-off", you'll be considered abusing track limits .

Was curious for personal sake. I’m 25 and do some amateur formula car racing. Although I’m competitive in the racing I do, I probably don’t have the talent (and definitely not the funding) to launch a professional career. More realistically, I’m thinking about making enough money while I’m young to fund a semi-pro sportscar career later in life. Although I hope to do it before I’m 50 

 

Ever work for a major auto manufacturer??? Many things they do make no sense. Its why we bail them out when it all goes bad.

 

Really looking forward to Mardenborough race in the Nissan. For those who dont know he is the young guy who never grew up racing but kicked butt in a Gran Turismo(video game) Comp a few years back and has worked his way up to becoming a pro driver for Nissan. Pretty cool...Who says video games cant pay off lol....Well spoken kid as well....

I hope he does well - great story. One of the guys I race with was part of the Nissan Gran Turismo Academy, went to Silverstone and tested as part of the program. And he is super fast! Video games really teach you to be smooth

 

I did a fair amount of work with this guy, he finished second in the US version of the Nissan GT Academy, and I wouldn't define his driving style as smooth he's stupid fast though. says a lot about the depth of talent in a series like Carrera Cup Deutschland or SuperCup.

He is the kid who crashed the GTR at the Nurburgring and killed the spectator right? So he is already famous for making the Nurburgring change its racing policy.

 

I don't think it's fair to blame that crash on him.

I like Jann, he's very highly regarded as a P2 "ringer" and done well for himself everywhere he's competed.

 

Def wasn't his fault. Dumb post....

When a racing driver refers to smooth, they refer to being able to ride the 100% line without being under or over. Where that line is, is a changing target of grip. This means to be smooth, sometimes extremely rapid inputs will give smooth outputs.

Then you have Balance, Balance is changing the available grip levels on the different ends of the car. It is differences in how driver's balance the car that leads to styles that appear more "smooth" to outsiders than others.
