Took the "red car" to Costco today. I don't usually observe people's reaction to the car when I leave it somewhere, but I was outside waiting to get my propane tank filled. Well I didn't need to worry about the car. Two Costo guys who look after the shopping carts parked themselves on either side of my car. They were checking out the car but at the same time, in their orange vests, they were warning people to be careful. When I walked up they simply melted away before I could say anything.

I was driving around downtown today. Guy walking down the street:
    - I'll trade you my hat for your car.
    - Throw in $150K with the hat and it's all yours!
    - Fair enough. (Walks away)

While waiting at a stop light, a bus driver asked me if he could drive my car around the block. I told him "sure, if I can drive your bus around the block".

Had the exact same thing happen when I stopped at a McDonalds today to grab a drink in my 328

    Stopped. Parked.
Walked inside, to a bunch of 20 somethings looking out the window
One guy said "You drove a Ferrari to a McDonalds???"

I quipped back "I was thirsty"

We good-naturedly bantered a little more as I purchased a med drink. Then I sat down to drink as I watched them walk out to check out the car.

Another couple was at the window witnessed the banter and were watching them inspecting the car, then looked at me.

I shrugged and said "It's just a car" which got a laugh from them.

Be careful what you say about this lady. I think she may be related to Husker. If she calls back and complains about deer and daylight savings time it is certain she is related. She needs to buy a jeep.

The other day my husband and I stopped at a convenience store to get something to drink. We walked inside and the kid that works there says "Oh my God. I'd give my life to ride around in that just for a day. What is it?" I said "360 Spider." He gives me this completely blank look, so I said "A Ferrari." He looks at the car and looks at me again, then says "So how much money do you have?"

"Give his life"? WOW...good thing you're not the devil, or you could have easily made a deal for his soul...LOL!!!

I hope you let him at least sit in it, just to make his day. :)

I had a kid ask me that once. I looked him in the eye and asked him if he could keep a secret.

    "Sure!," he said.

So I motioned him to come over and in a very quiet voice said:

"Way more than I would have had if I dropped out of school, tried drugs, got some girl pregnant at sixteen, or just plain decided not to work my butt off."

He looked back at me. Completely blank stare. Crickets.

I thought it was pretty good, though, and it certainly made my day.

Had my mirrors folded in at a recent cars and coffee (360 Spider), overheard one guy telling his girlfriend that they automatically fold in when you park it because they cost $5000 to replace.

Oh yeah. My husband and I have impressed upon him that our lifestyle is due to education, hard, hard, hard work, and not having kids. Hopefully, he's taking notes.

He couldn't leave the store. His manager is a ******bag. You can tell just by looking at him. But my husband told him to tell us a day when he's getting off work and he could have a ride. And yeah, he's sorta young and drama.

All of this, but especially the "no kids" part.

It might be worth it when you consider what you might be giving up on a great Parent/Child car/vintage car relationship. Having an adult kid that is interested in cars, makes for a great slide into the "golden years". Think of it as "incubating" a love for exotic/vintage cars in the next generation.

    Sid

Besides.....I make it point to tell my kids that they owe me a service later in life. "I changed your diapers when you were young. Therefore, you will have to help change mine when I get to that stage in life".

I get reactions like this all the time in my 430... I'm in my early 30's but Granted I do look very young (still get carded for everything... even R rated movies and buying M rated video games lol)

Usually when I'm at a car show or local meet people will ask me "so who did you ride with? or whats your deal what are you doing here are you with somebody?"

When I point to the 430 and say nope thats my ride they just give me a deer in headlights look.
