I measure myself with no one. The observation was some 599GTO owners needlessly bashing the F12 and now not wanting the follow-on to be new competition. At the end of the day, GTO prices go up due to being a limited edition as it was designed to do. Same reason why the F60 America, TRS, and the SP America (all F12s) went for millions right out the door. Same reason why the F12VS will go up if they are severely limited. These limited cars attract both enthusiasts and flippers as we all know.

Fair point......limited status can play an important role in the price dynamic but in the case of the GTO prices fell fairly hard over the first 2years and have only really started to appreciate in any significant manner over the last 12 months or so.

I really don't get it...Some people come into this forum to pick a fight...
F12 owners vs GTO owners...absolutely ridiculous...Grow up guys, we all love Ferrari and both are great cars

However I really laugh sometimes at the present-day "idolisation" of the 599 GTO. When I sold mine you couldn't give them away and they were super cheap over here until October 2014...Its present rise in values is far more linked to the liquidity driven general inflation in non-financial assets than to its importance as a motorcar. Scuderias are heading up as well, 360 CS are in the stratosphere and somebody wants to buy my Aperta for over 550,000 USD. I sold my 512M for 150k 18 months ago (with great difficulty) and now people would pay double. My 288 GTO was 800k in 2012 and somehow it is worth 2 million now...Absolutely ridiculous and reminiscent of 1990-91...it will also end in similar fashion to that bubble and then we'll see how many true fans these cars have. For now, I keep discovering a new car "collection" every week, bought with borrowed money and stashed in a storage room awaiting the next leg up in values.

Lets enjoy our cars for what they are. Cars not investments

Yes. I think perhaps the global market crash may have had an impact on the 599GTO early on (I'm no expert) but for a car introduced in just 2010 it is doing extremely well. I don't think the F12VS will hurt it at all just as the F12 has not hurt it. All different cars with drastically different exclusivity.

I have never driven a 599 GTO but it sounds like a fantastic car and I would love to drive one and I have a suspicion that if I drove one I would wish I had one. I have an F12 which I drive every day and frankly it's very overpowered which of course makes it fun. Let's not forget these cars are only toys. I have no idea what the souped up F12 is going to be called and I don't think it matters. Production is likely to be limited and I am sure it will be a desirable car. Whatever it is I don't think it's going to affect 599 GTO value in the slightest, there are only 800 globally and I think they are widely loved and are in strong hands.

To go back to the thread though, I am anxious to hear what our German friends tell us after the viewing on Tuesday. Please report back!

+1 I am very doubtful of the recent surge in values for many of these particularly late model cars.. time will tell Porsches and Ferraris are insane now days..we will see if these prices are sustainable.. certain cars are being moved from dealer to dealer only to keep going for sale at higher prices.. sorry to get off subject

Amen. That's what I'm doing. Just ticked 23,100 km this weekend.

@ Solid State: As a huge fan of the 599 GTO and one of the first owners I wish to state for the record: Never have I "bashed" the F12 nor have I ever talked about "F12 owners vs 599 GTO owners". The F12 is a great car and the F12 VS will be amazing no doubt. As will every next special limited edition Ferrari releases but some are just a tad better than the others and have that extra something. I think many people agree that the 599 GTO got all the dots together and evokes a lot of emotion while driving it. That's what defines a great car in my opinion. Sure the F12 is faster but as e- says: If I need to pick one to drive then the GTO it is. That doesn't mean that the F12 isn't a great drive. Let us be clear about that.

As to recent value increases … couldn't agree more with George. For me my GTO goes up in value every day simply because of all the pleasure I've had while driving it. Isn't that what it is all about?

Thanks. My ownership of a 599 GTO needs no calling out. I am an objective owner of an F50, F40, 458 Speciale and 550M too. And soon, to add an 458 SA. I am merely passing on what a major network dealer told me, and my own question of someone stating the F12 is one of the greats; no doubt it's an outstanding car but "one of the greats"? That comprises then a very big pool.

    So right in every respect.

The interesting and accurate comparison will be F12VS vs 599 GTO.

to buy a few regular ferraris... it's not really a "pain" but not a real gain since they don't gain value in time like the limited editions

No, they depreciate like most other cars and that is the pain.
