I just picked the Dino up from some minor work, and the guy who runs the shop has a lot of nice stuff. He has 4 original 288 wheels from his old Testarossa lying in the back, and has no plans to use them. Anyone know the value of these? Any advice is appreciated.

Interesting that they are mid 1989 date stamped

Thanks for the tips so far, guys. Not sure about the date stamping - will check. I found a thread from a few years back where 4 wheels apparantly were sold for USD 18.000 - any thoughts on this?

I think that was probably my thread on my set for sale. I had a few nibbles at $18k but eventually I let them go for $11 or 12k IIRC. With the market the way it is these days, honestly, you ought to be able to get $18-20k.

The wheels are exceptionally hard to find and to the owner of a $1m+ 288 GTO who *needs* them, how could $20k be a deterrent? Heck, people pay $5k+ for manuals or a set of tools and those don't even have anything to do with the car actually functioning!

I dont know if its the same with the 288 but I do know with other collector cars from this same era, the real value add is if the wheels were cast during the original cars year of production, rather than at a later point.

The round circle in your photo denotes the year of manufacture, in your case the 89 means 1989 and the dots in the circles represent the month of that year.

I think it's more of a concours thing than anything, the wheels are still the same regardless but a 1986 car on 1989 wheels indicates they are not original to that car.
