The late Peter Cook (president of the Import Motors) had a Turbo Carrera with this same fitment – silver with turbo graphics and red leather w/ Mackenzie Tartan-dress. The April 1976 Porsche + Audi Enthusiast news flyer for the Indiana region under Import Motors, Grand Rapids, Michigan introduced the Turbo Carrrera with an article and 3-page specification sheet. By this time, the Blaupunkt Frankfurt was no longer listed (Bamberg was standard for U.S. Turbo Carreras). wonderful color, close 2nd to viper green in my book. i never get tired of seeing pics of these two colors good chance its the same car?
Were the turbo graphics originally on the 1977 Turbo Carrera in your post? If so, at least a possibility they are the same car. It would be nice to know where Peter Cook's silver Turbo Carrera ended up. I have his 1979 Turbo in silver with light red leather he special ordered when he was visiting the Porsche factory.

1975 Turbo #0242 for sale in the Nov 1999 Panorama for $30K/OBO. The ad was from San Antonio, TX and this may help explain the Texas dealer plates from Road Scholars photos; just 1700 more kilometers on the odometer. Does anyone know if the factory noted black headliner on the COA? I have two cars with a black headliner and two with a white. None note anything on the COA.
Jamie, My 77 has a black headliner and it is noted on COA. My 76's have a white headliners and there is no notation on COA. Phil
I have two 1977 Turbos. One with black headliner (it's noted on the CoA) and the other with the white standard liner which is not called out on its CoA Michael
Thanks for both of your replies. I like the black headliner a LOT on a black interior. With a darker interior colors, it definitely looks cool. COA is sketchy. With my 76 ROW car, I sent in for the COA and received an email back stating: "Please note that the model description for this vehicle will be listed as a 1976 911 Turbo Coupe on the COA and due to the lack of country code listed on the Kardex there will not be a mention of the country equipment/ROW." I had to prove it was a ROW car with old documentation from Porsche Germany that was requested years ago simply to have my COA noted correctly! It's amazing they charge and then use the info from me to amend their COA.
On another note: I was told that on my COA under options for a 1976 ROW 930 that it came with a Becker radio. I see a few mentions of this radio as being an early option in early cars. Has anyone see one of these radios in a car and can you confirm that the one below is correct? I am in the 90 percentile that it is, but I don't want to buy it if someone insists it is not. By the 106 MHz FM frequency range, that Becker radio is for the U.S. market. Its interesting that a Becker is an option on your COA. Becker radios are not listed in the 1975-1977 U.S. Porsche + Audi Fact Books or RoW Zubehor Options and Preisliste booklets. Symbolics 1976 Turbo previously for sale, 9306800074, is a good example of a U.S. dealer installed Becker Mexico radio but it was only on the invoice (additional $350) and not the window sticker. BTW: Id still like to know how they fitted the 8 x 15 inch wheels on the front without removing the spacers (unless they were not Fuchs with factory offsets). 0074 is also listed for sale again-http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/porsche/930/1750440.html Phil
The new ad listing states they were 8 x 9 Fuchs but I have my doubts (perhaps BBS wheels?) and its hard to tell since they are no longer on #0074. The 7 x 9 x 16 inch Fuchs wheels will fit on 3-liter Turbos (i.e., Steve McQueens 76 at Mecum) without removing spacers but they were not introduced until 1986 when the 3.3 liter Turbos were re-introduced to the US.
I've not seen the factory officially install Becker radios in any early 930, but that doesn't mean a special request couldn't have been made. Do you have a copy of your COA that you could post? Also, any photos of the sides and back of your Becker radio case and associated stickers? That should tell us when it was produced.
A lot of dealers "upgraded" these with BBS wheels - a way to make some extra $$. I had a friend with a really nice 79 that had BBS wheels when he bought it, previous owner insisted the wheels were factory installed- I told him no fricken way they came with fuchs wheels period. Phil
Here are 3 other early cars that appear to have had Becker radios: I haven't received the COA yet. I simply obtained that information over the phone. Once it's in hand, I will post it. I have both a Euro Bamberg and access to the Becker. The Becker wasn't in the car. It would be added back in. I find it challenging now to choose what to put in the car. If the COA says Becker, what's really right? Maybe I am thinking about this too damn much https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/142773416-post1855.html https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/142363337-post1332.html https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/143277006-post2655.html
FYI... The correct name of the Red tartan used by Porsche is MacLachlan Modern Tartan MacLachlan Modern Heavy Weight Tartan Fabric - Lochcarron of Scotland I used the heavy weight, in my 77 "outlaw" Turbo. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Phil, When did 0074 last trade at Symbolic and what was the price listed? For maintenance of the thread, the current pricing / offered car is below. Once it's gone, eventually the link will no longer work. Image Unavailable, Please Login
