people care much about sound, that's why Aventador is best selling ever Lambo V12. Prices of Carrera GT and F50 go crazy high, old slow Zonda cost more than new Huayra, best sounding cars like 599 GTO will be good investment in the future of silence and electric cars
All this booming prices will drop back when Ferrari launches the NA hybrid. I think Ferrari's V8 won't survive with the turbo.
That means an expensive turbocharged, even worse. If that's the case, 458 will skyrocket, 599 GTO will ride the space shuttle, and waiting time for V12 will be at least 3 years. Btw, it's still worth it to wait, though. LOL
I agree; but not afraid ; ) I could see a 2.9L V8 twin turbo plus e-motor. 800HP...instant torque fill anywhere the engine mapping engineer/test driver likes. I say 2.9 because, I'm assuming they will want to reduce the weight of the block since they will have to add weight with the electric power. Hopefully they can switch to a CF chassis which should also shave weight to keep the car 3000-3400lbs. We are talking roughly 6 years from now, so that should totally be achievable.
...in the short term no? We are speculating on the follow-on to the 488 which is about 6 years out if they keep the same lifecycle as the 458.
you are right, in next 5 years hybrid system will evolve, next 488 will be possible hybrid with V6 or V8 turbo I think Ferrari would move back to NA only if Porsche build 488 competitor with NA engine from 918 and this car would steal some customers from Ferrari, other ways turbo Ferrari will be successful
Having just seen the 488 in the flesh....I don't see how they keep that car for a 6 year cycle. It looks too much like a 458 to be new and exciting for 6 years, and what has changed looks in totality to be less appealing (exterior, exhaust sound).
I think you are spot on. The 2020 488 replacement will most likely be NA/Kers tech brought down from LaFerrari. The twin turbo V8 is a one off at least for now....I believe. The track versions of the V8's will go up in price. I've been told that Cavallino magazine put valuation of Speciale A between 1 to 1.5 million. I heard that an owner turned down a million dollar offer this week.
they say that cylinders can't be bigger than this in 458 so it's time for V10 like this from Carrera GT
Turbo is much cheaper than Kers Future V-8's will remain Turbo mainly because there is a lot of competition in that category - IMO
I finally saw the 488 in person and it did not disappoint! It looks great in the flesh!! I don't think its as good looking as the Speciale but it has +'s over the 458. Especially the front and rear end. The side intakes and door handles are my only sticking point so I am going to order a darker color (especially since I will never sell the Speciale) like Grigio Ferro. Ill do the splitter in carbon fiber along with the tail light frames. The interior is 458 with some minor changes. Overall the car is a winner. Yes... I am a sound guy and nothing sounds the way my modded Speciale does... Its sounds just like a F1 car of old. Intoxicating. I will use the 488 in more of go to dinner car. It will be easy to drive, comfortable and of course on the quiet side. For the novice car person they will be hard pressed to tell the difference between the 458 and 488. Of course we are all nuts and play on this board and we can easily tell the difference. I only state this because if you own a 458 Italia, Im not sure id trade up or not. Did I see you there Friday morning and not realize it was you, or did you go today? My impressions are a few posts above...front and rear are awesome. I didnt even notice the door handles at all to be honest. Side vents, ouch.
I've always felt that the 328 was evolutionary of the 308 in the best of ways (not over the top, not too masculine, e.g., steroidal, fluid design that retains a sexy Italian look). So much so that in my eyes it was a considerable improvement and one of the best Ferrari designs ever. IMO.

By "very close to it" do you mean in terms of beauty or in terms of design? If it's in terms of design, then no. Being a refresh of the 458, the 488 is a descendant of the 308 from where the 458 draws many of its curves and balance of proportions. I've not read of Ferrari citing their influences but when you see a 458 next to a 308 it's easy to see which car they had in mind when they sat down at the drawing board. As for beauty, the 355 is one of their best but I'd put the 308 just ahead.

In terms of beauty. The F355 is more or less perfect in its appearance, this regarding its proportions, its lines and its details (for example its integrated rear spoiler and the two divided side vents). I also like the 458, this is out of question, in my eyes the second most beautiful V8 mid engine Ferrari. Now with the 488 the beautiful 458-lines remained the same, the rear is now more harmonious and more exciting, the front is inspired by the Speciale (positive). And the side air intakes? imo a must have for this product line, without is simply "too soft" for me. Nice for a GT or an Audi TT... Yes, I definitely like the 488, a slight improvement compared to the 458! Of course we are talking about design and beauty, therefore this is just my personal opinion.
I definitely agree. And seeing the 458 and 488 side by side confirms (for me) the notion that those not as close to the cars as we are will see them as being more or less the same. I'm about to take delivery of a new 458 Spider, but I'm not getting it because I think it's more beautiful than the 488 (I'm actually reserving judgment on that one). I'm getting it because I can have it NOW and because I already have a 911 Turbo S, which I think, rightly or wrongly, is likely to be closer to the 488 experience. I want the NA engine for the contrast.
